Morning all, got home last night after a 1000+ mile trip up hill and down dale and a few moments stood out which I thought I'd share.
Firstly, the M1, IS THIS ROAD PERMANENTLY FULL OF SODDING TRAFFIC AND AT A TOTAL STANDSTILL?
Everytime I travel on this road it's terrible! There must be some sort of Truman show type atics going on.
Good fun to be had going off piste with a map and some A roads though.
Next, Leeds, I'd like to know who told the highway department in Leeds about speed cameras because all of a sudden they're EVERYWHERE! Nightmare when there's no traffic!
Onto the A75 to Stranraer, what a lovely road! (except the bit near Dumfries with all the roundabouts) even with all the spawn of the devil caravans to 'negotiate' superb press on roads, well behaved truckers, light traffic and superb road surface! Makes having a relatively fast car worthwhile.

So onto the trip home, back on the A75 and trying to negotiate a queue which was miles long and travelling about 40 MPH, all due to a 'truck/caravan/truck/caravan/sh1tbox who's unable to overtake' convoy and is stopping the 30+ cars behind from doing so: cue DJFish and his wonderful 3rd gear! took about 10 mins to get past the lot, which prompted loads of other people to do the same.
What is it that turns people into such sheep? and yes it did get me there quicker.......
M6, only police cars I saw all weekend, one marked Range Rover, one unmarked Octavia causing the usual tailbacks but nice to see.
M6 toll road, fantastic! best £2 I've ever spent.
Specs cameras, Why tailgate me when there are clearly marked Specs cameras, there's no room to move over and I'm doing the limit, plus I'm in a chav chariot and you know I'm going to floor it as soon as I get to the NSL! There must be so many people getting snapped by these things.
Finally the A14, Miles upon miles, as far as the eye could see, of nose to tail cars in lane 2 and absolutely nothing in lane 1!!!!! WHY FFS! Also, absolute loon in a people carrier, blatantly unstable and probably late getting back to the 'home'.

I think next time I'll fly up to Scotland........Dunno what the point of this post is really, just a snapshot of or road system and a post thats not by Streetcop I suppose
Cheers
Dave

Hope you had a generally good time DJFish, despite the frustrations of travelling certain roads.

I know what you mean about the nose to tail closely spaced gang, who will not, or can not, overtake but succeed in fouling it up for others. Now that would be a very useful problem to try and tackle.

As for countering Streetcop's efforts, you've got your work cut out there.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

That sounds like a jolly useful car... is it some kind of nuclear-powered tank? An oncoming lorry only slows it down a bit?

Hi DJFish, Came up from Dover last week, M20-M25-M1-M62W. 'Orrible journey! How anyone can get done for speeding I don't know!

I was was pulling a trailer by the way, "Perfectly" capable of 100mph plus! It's just the BLOODY archaich speed limits, I normally run at 80 mph in Europe but getting tough there as well, so don't blame the caravans all the time, they CAN'T use the 3rd lane, and over 60mph...........the wheels may come off!! EVERY caravaner KNOWS that this is BOLLOCKS!!! Time for a change in the law to 70mph at least! Then we DON't hold everyone else up IF we want to keep our Licence, it's NOT that WE can't DO it!! It's the BLOODY STUPID LAW!!!!!!!!!! In the last 25+ years I've driven through Europe WITH a trailer at 80 - 90 mph with NO problems for thousands of miles. The Onus is on the Driver to ensure that the trailer is correctly loaded and maintained. I have NEVER had a problem.

What I DID see on the M1 last week was a lorry ( I was running at a leisurely 70mph by the way) until a "Longs of Leeds" lorry blocked the middle lane at 56 mph for 10 miles before moving into lane 3 for another 2-3 miles to overtake another 2 lorries in lanes 1+2 at plus 1 mph.

Entering a 50mph roadworks section at MORE than 50mph he indicated RIGHT again to pull out behind a Nissan Micra in my lane, " I'd had enough" and accellerated to block him and he didn't like it, blowing his horn! So..... driver of "Longs of Leeds" first part of reg X197..... You're a pillock!!

Having said all this though I REALLY do think that 70 mph (or whatever) should apply to ALL.
The lesson you get from "towing" IS "the less overtaking the better". An EVEN speed limit IS the answer. Even if that means: Lorries stay in the 1st lane only at 70mph, what do you think guys?

I think that getting Mr Numpty to realise that driving in lane one (when available) will not shrink his dk or loose him any time and will stop people wanting to rip his head off would so vastly improve the driving experience in this country that we would probably be able to accept the odd +0.1mph overtakes from the 40 tonners.

I dunno what the "OM" is about, but "Mr Numpty" certainly was directed at you unless you fit the description .

Nothing I have said is a critisism of you, did I give you the wrong impression?
