Bought a car and it died in less than one hour!
Discussion
I bought a Land-Rover yesterday. Car seemed fine. Price was right and seller seemed OK so paid my £1800 and drove off!
I'd driven about 15 miles along the motorway, keeping to the limit +10% max when, without warning, there was a loud bang and the car stopped!
The temperature and oil gauges/lights had not indicated anything but the engine seems to have seized solid!
I had to pay to get the vehicle recovered!
Contacted the seller to let him know what had happened and said that the car was not of merchantable quality and I wanted a refund.
He said that the car was perfect but offered to pay me £100 towards the recovery!
FFS!
If he thought the car was perfect why would he offer £100??
He must have known that there was a problem or he would not have offered anything!
Anyway, I'm getting it towed back to his place tomorrow morning and am not leaving without my money!
Can anyone let me know what laws are in place to cover this situation? I can't afford to have a car repaired at the moment!

Be careful, he's probably called the police by now and reported your perfectly reasonable request as harassment.
Best course of action is to wait a couple of weeks until it all calms down, then go round to his garage and see if he's got a little red sportscar like a Lotus or something. If he has, you're well within your rights to take it as compensation.
