Last minute deals - Gone!

Hi all, I normally book holidays at the very last minute (i.e. within a week or a few days of travel). Not just because of cost, but because of work commitments, etc.
I've NEVER struggled to get a holiday like I have this week. I don't know whether it's more people going away or not as many holidays for sale to start with, but to get anywhere in Europe for next week at any reasonable price is impossible.
I spoke to one travel agent who said in 20 years of booking holidays, they've never seen as little availability as at the moment, she thought it was because the tour operators didn't buy as many seats on planes as they normally do (anticipating the recession biting) and it hasn't happened, so as a consequence, there's hardly anything available!
Looks like Blackpool it is then!
