Hi all
I`m a recent convert from a Wedge but my 1994 Chim 500 seems blighted
Drove to work this morning all fine, opened the boot, switched off ignition and got out. Then i heard music................the radio was back on along with all the ignition lights and fuel/temp gauge etc.
Pulled out the relays one by one to no avail, disconnected the battery and left it alone for now.
Anybody suffered a similar or got any wise ideas?
Many thanks in advance

I've recently had some odd bits and pieces happen (ignition on only though). Currently, we think the culprit was loose earth connections.

had hazard lights turning themselves on at own free will. removed fuse, then they only turned themselves on when opening the doors (from the inside, not on bleeper) now stopped doing that as well, so i am none the wiser - thinking it must be something to do with the alarm/immobiliser set up though - i confused it one day by blipping the alarm on whilst the hazards were flashing, and from that point on it went funny.

I have seen this before... a Chimaera with the ignition on but no keys in it.

Basically the Relay Board (not the relays, the bit they plug into) had got wet and had corroded a bit inside too I guess.. accordingly power was flowing all over the place at times including between the terminals on the Ignition relay (bypassing the relay itself)

I'd take the board out (spending some time carefully noting down the wire connections to the rear of it), put it in a warm dry place for a bit and get some WD40 into it too, it might well solve the problem.

You can check that this is the fault too I imagine by removing the ignition connections from the back of the board, and plugging them directly into the ignition relay connectors instead, therefore not passing the current through the board.

Cheers,
Matt.

Reconnected the battery at lunchtime and all was well again, except that the speedo had dumped its mileage and gone back to 0 miles.
Then I closed the door and on came the ignition again. If i open and close the door again then it goes off, open and close door its off.
Simple.....get out twice and the problem is solved, failing that it looks like the lock/alarm control unit under the dash then, door lock & alarm upgrade time me thinks.
Next question is there a battery in the speedo head that can be changed or is it an eeprom in the head knackered ?
Thanks again, Dave

I believe there is a battery in the speedo unit (cue a couple of hours labour to get at it) - check a few threads on here first - sure that it where I will have read it.

Don't want to cause alarm I am pretty sure the digital speedo is a standard fit only on circa 2000 onwards Chims...?
