I wondered if anyone had any good ideas about how to ensure my Dad takes his medication twice a day?

Dad's approaching 80 and is type 2 diabetic so takes metformin twice a day plus some other bits and pieces typical of someone his age.

I try not to nag him all the time about what he should and shouldn't do and whilst he's never been great at taking his meds in the past he's currently not taking them at all unless I physically get the tablets and put them in his hand. Last week my sister was here and I thought she was checking his meds and she thought I was - he went three days without taking anything...

I'm running out of ideas about how to get him to take his meds; he only has a very basis mobile so I can't set an alarm and anyway, it needs to be linked to when he eats as he has to take the metformin soon after eating.

If necessary we will physically give him the meds twice a day but I wondered if anyone got any words of wisdom or ideas of how to manage this as I'm trying to give him as much independence as possible?

There are lots and lots and LOTS of ways to do this one.

Tabtime.com has a decent roundup of some of the off-the-shelf options.

Is your Dad's routine fixed enough that attaching something to the fridge, or in the middle of the dining table, could work?
