Sump Plug

Bit of a silly question but.........
Changing the oil in the car next weekend and don't want the faf of jacking it up then finding the sump plug is some strange size allen head, or odd size bolt, so what do I need in the tool box to undue it, I'm sure it's going to be simple but TVR has a habit of being 'different' I can just imagine it being a bloody Torx bolt

Nothing unusual, normal spanner job. Must be about 22mm ... probably a fraction wider than you can open your adjustable spanner ... probably not quite enough ground clearance to turn the spanner ... loose the skin on your knuckles ... that would be par for the course.

Use a 29mm socket on mine (87 - 350i). Don't know if the dimension on it has been changed throughout the RV8 life. Found the 29mm odd enough, and used a adjustable wrench until lately.
Tip: get a new sump plug washer before as well, and if possible read the bible on 'risks' during the oil change, and how to prime the oil pump to be fully prepared.

Well I bet no ones going to know the internal/external sizes of that are they
And I bet if I take 1 of everything from 'stores' I'll still not have one the right size, and what are the chances of my local Rover dealer being any use

Just a humble but decent sized adjustable will do the job fine. There isnt enough space between the end of the plug and the chassis to get a socket in there, so one ideally would use a ring spanner (I have a feeling it's something like 29mm AF)but thats an unusually large ring spanner size, hence my uise of the adjustable. Make sure its set to be a good close fit to avoid rounding the corners. You'll be pushing it to get access and leverage without jacking the car up (REMINDER FOR ALL OF US: with stands please , a patient of mine recently nearly died when his trolley jack collapsed trapping his head, fortunatley escaped with only a large skull fracture, major haemorrhage, and nerve injuries....). Or get it on ramps (suitably chocked) tho' this isn't easy due to the low front / rear overhang clearance. If its on tight you may need to give the spanner a bit of judicious encouragement with a soft-faced / rubber mallet.
