Hi

I'm just doing the final touches to my 4.8 AJP WR this weekend, as its going away for re mapping. I want to send it with a full tank of fuel.

Which is best Shell V power or Tesco 99 Ron ?

Im not interested in filling it with BP fuel, as I've seen a report which states its not as good as Shell V power, which came out best. But the report didn't mention tesco 99 fuel.

Many thanks in advance for your input smile

I suspect that it is going to depend on the particular properties of your rather special engine, but for what it is worth my 4.2 hates the Tesco fuel. It doesn't run well on it at all and it has happened with sufficient regularity that I am fairly certain it's not my imagination. Shell V Power for mine all the way.

I tend to use Sainsburys 99 which used to be BP fuel never had a problem with it otherwise Shell Opti also fine and can't say i notice a difference between the two, i think when joo re-mapped it for me it had a tank of Shell in it.
Hope all goes well who is doing the mapping for you Mr Pinko Lady?

Power wise they will all be the same, surely? The only difference the fuel will make is the ability to prevent knocking/det etc so you can advance the timing even more to make more power.. So the power comes from the ignition timing, not the fuel...

I remember reading something on a Supra forum a long time ago something about Tesco 99 having better anti-knock properties .. but V-power had a higher calorific value..

I ran my 4.2 on V power or TEsco 99.. I'm convinced most differences felt by the driver are just placebo tbh

Do you really want it mapped with the best fuel you're ever likely to use?

Could end up pinking if you ever use anything else.

Thanks for the replies, intresting to see no one has rated Tescos 99 Ron fuel.

I've always used Shell V power myself even tho the tesco s station is closer to where I live then my nearest shell station.

Shell have a handy station locator phone app which is free to download, and the reward points for a free fuel voucher is a welcome bonus.

I should have edited the topic tile to...

Which is the best fuel for power... That doesn't blow your engine up ? hehe

Derek will you still be running Nos on your rebuilt engine ? and how much more power would you expect to get ?

Yes of course. I am hoping for 320 bhp NA and to take it up to a limit of 500 including the gas.
Dont want to get greedy. This is enough power to run a 10.99 IMHO. If i get the urge to run a 9 then the RV8 will have to go sadly.

Stop fussing man and get the damn thing mapped! Can't wait to see the results...
Can we start putting wagers on the likely results? Is it going to Power?
I'll start te betting at 461 bhp.

Gazzab, I thought you ed guess more than that. But I think your right on the money.

I d like to see 100 bhp per litre out of the AJP, but I think it might be a little less than that. Say 95 bhp per litre which will give it around 450 plus bhp.

Power only quotes at the wheels, so 461 at the wheels...no chance!
400 and a smidge, as i know what the 4.7's make there.

V Power is certainly the best fuel on the forecourts. Anyone who claims that the premium is being paid falsely would be seriously mistaken. I filled up with BP Ultimate on a run through to Blackpool with Bobbins, as did he, and both cars suffered. Mine started running terribly in traffic and Bobbins' a massive flat spot.

I meant at the fly. 461 as might be measured on SRR and the like.
