Advice needed on Mondeo -should I change to a newer one??
Discussion
Hi I have an 05 2.0L TDCI which I bought 3 years ago at 93K and it has been an excellent towcar and has only had one turbo hose replaced in that time and it has now done 113K. I keep hearing tales about dual mass flywheel, fuel pump and DP filter problems for this model, but nothing has gone wrong for me. I would like a new model 09-10 Titanium X that has done about 80K, but have been warned that I could have these problems. Can anyone help on this?
To be honest you seem to have a good car that has had few problems. Yes you could experience faults in the future but by the same token you may not. Also the new car may well suffer from the problems you mention just as easily.
Personally I would keep the car as, no disrespect, it ain't worth a whole lot and run it into the ground and I suspect you'll have a few years life in it yet!
Unless of couse you just fancy a new car in which case go for it

Thanks Valiant your reply has convinced me I must buy a newer car because:
1. My present Mondeo is worth £1500 as a trade in. If anything goes seriously wrong that costs £1000 (DMF or fuel pump) it will still only be worth £1500 as a trade in. If I scrap it I will lose £1500.
2. If I trade in and something goes wrong on the new one I can spend £1000 on getting it fixed with confidence as I am going to run it for the next 3 or 4 years.
Cheers

We have an 09 2.0 petrol Edge and it has been a great car with no issues in the 30k miles it has covered (bar a long rubber seal falling off under the doors which hasn't really been an issue as we left it off and it doesn't leak). Then again we only paid £12k for it brand new in 2009 and it's been worth every penny.
The only real fault I can find with the car is that the rearward visbility is pretty poor, especially when pointing downhill, and I have the dents to prove it so if you can get reversing sensors, do so.
