I am in the middle of hunting down a convertible / cabriolet for next summer, and have began to wonder if I am doing the right thing.
With the ste British weather and also the amount of people I see with open tops but never seem to have them down.
My next door neighbour has had two and I never saw the roof down ever on either.
Are they a whim type craving, and will hardly ever go topless
I am beginning to think the extra premium for a convertible could get me a newer, better, faster, totally different car.
Anyone had one and wish they had not,or is something you have to have once in your life.

MR2 t-Bar.

If it wasn't raining, the roof came off. Bobble hat, heater going full pelt. Lovely.

Anyone who bought one earlier this year is probably wishing they hadn't!

No.

Just because your neighbour doesn't get his roof down doesn't mean you will do the same.

If you get a hardtop you definately can't take the roof off. (Notable exceptions aside)

Always have the roof off on the VX unless its raining, winter and summer, night and day. If its cold, wrap up, if its hot, suncream

Will be selling the VX soon, and im going to miss the topless ness most of all, i already know it

How many weeks?

I had an s2000. Didn't like the fact it was a convertible. Sold it.

My Mk1 MX-5 was horrible with the roof up. Hot, crampt, noisy and constantly steaming up.

So I only drove it in the dry, which was hardly ever.

You would have thought the previous owner would have mentioned it was a convertible when you bought it.

I hate it when you get surprises like that after you've bought the car :-)

It depends on your mentality. I LOVE roof-down driving so unless it was raining heavily (or lightly but in stop-start traffic) the roof was rarely seen year-round. Occasionally I fancy a super-comfortable coupe, but usually for drives that aren't fun. For everything else I can't get a big enough convertible fix. It's so much more involving that being cocooned away in a room.

since buying my mx5 a month ago, i have used it at least 25 miles a day commuting, plus a few hundred miles on the weekend, and ive had the roof up twice. as long as the rain isnt too heavy and you keep moving, its fantastic

We had an MX5 as well as the Merc and the MX got used nearly constantly, and so long as it wasn't actually peeing down, the roof was off. The Merc spends its lifein the garage and only comes out if the chance of precipitation is at 100-1 or better!

No, have loved all of ours really would like another soft top as the daily driver, buying do loads and loads of miles all on the motorway and I have to trade comfort / quiet against wind noise may still do it with a 640d
