R8 now has also DCT so I bet someone does this comparison. I sure hope it is something else than Top Gear though. I think they have nearly completely lost their touch on technical reviews and are more like clowns.

The 991 has lost every head to head I have seen with the R8 V8. I would not expect it to be pretty, maybe we will see against the face-lifted R8 it in the new series...

I'm a little dubious about the results of some of the tests that have the R8 ahead of the 991. The 991 is a seriously capable car, better than the 997, which everybody agreed was superior to the R8, so I can't see how a 991 is worse.

My GTS really suited my driving style and I absolutely loved it (even more than the 991s I've tried) but there's no doubt that the 991 is a better car with a much broader dynamic repertoire and when you take it by the scruff of the neck and rag it for all its worth - it's unbelievably and surprisingly engaging. I'm really looking forward to the GT3!

'a much broader dynamic repertoire'? FFS.

Pretentious? Moi?

Sorry not everyone agreed the 997 was better than the r8 ,in fact most of the tests at the time preferred the r8 .
I went from a 997s,into a 997tt into an r8 and the r8 was the better car.having driven the 991 I would currently have that over the r8 but the r8 chassis and handling was miles better than a 997 (bar the gt3).

Never driven an R8, so I have no idea whether it's better or not than a 997. However, I remember the mags that I read at the time being seriously impressed by the R8 but it was a close but no cigar moment, not a definitive - this is way better than a 997. Could be wrong about this and it's possible they were testing different variants of 997 against the R8, which would make a difference.

It does doesn't it?

However, the experts on here, despite not having driven an R8, seem to know better, so I'll go with that.........

Fair point - and this was C4S vs R8, which I'd say is the most relevant. It's hard to keep track of all of the 997 variants and how they performed against the R8. I don't think it ever won ECOTY though, although it was probably pitted against the GT3 RS in that comparison.

That's a manual boxed 991 ....PDK is much smoother and faster.

with PDK it would have taken 3 tenths off those acceleration times.

I had 30 mins in an R8 V10 the other day.

I can't give you a scientific review, but christ it was good. I mean, really, stunningly good. Probably the best thing I've ever driven. Bit spartan inside - I preferred the interior of my 996, but the way it went was unbelievable.

How did you manage that?

And same of course goes for R8.

The R8 won the two starts by 1 tenth as it has better traction.
The 991 won the 1/4 mile by 2 tenths so is faster when moving.
991 won the braking
991 won the cornering G force
R8 won the slalom by 1 mph

These figures are irrelevant as to what is the better car.
On a public road there would be no daylight between the two so the better car is the one that suits the individuals tastes and needs.

All just marketing bullst.

You buy what you like and who cares what others think.

There was a pretty detailed 991S versus R8 4.2 FSI comparison in the German magazine "AutoZeitung Special - Powercar".
The Porsche won with 2879 Points over the Audi (2675 Points).
If you're interested and can't find it any more, send me a PM.
