Game recommendation?

I've soon got a few night shifts coming up at work where I'm the shift co-ordinator, unfortunately this means that for the 12 hours I'm at work the majority of it I'll be sat doing nothing.
So has anyone got any recommendations for games I can load onto my laptop to get me through it? I suspect that any shoot-em up will get boring quickly, as will any driving game, so I'm looking at something I can get involved in such as a strategy game (but I'm open to anything). I've got Age of Empires 3 but I soon get fed up with that.

ETA: there's no internet at work so multiplayer online games are out.

Turn based will likely be best - you can stop easily if any work happens - so I'd go with whichever is the latest Civilization game that doesn't need to be online.

Absolutely ANY of the Total War franchise should keep you more than occupied. Take your pick of the era that you fancy.
Napoleon, Samurai, Rome or Empire (before Napoleon).

If you get bored you simply pick a new state to dry and push forward.

It's the nature of factory work these days. Nine times out of ten the machines will be humming along nicely and there's nothing much to do apart from watch the clock. It's when everything goes wrong that you really don't want to be the night shift supervisor; making the judgement call of whether to take action or wake the Ops Manager up at 3am to ask him about it is not something I'd like to do.

I don't - we fight like crazy to avoid doing this as we'd much rather be out working. A shift where we're co-ordinating just drags and drags.

Neither of the above need an internet connection do they? There's no connection at work.

Galactic Civilisations 1 and 2 are good, one game can take months on a big map...

Or Medival Total War. (XL mod is a great addition to it)

I prefer the first 1, I dislike the Rome/medival 2 ones, having to manually explore the map is a bugger...

Quake Live - should run well on a laptop.
