Hi
I am taking out 10 year old to NY at the end of the month and wonder what the easiest way is to get from the airport to our hotel in Manhattan? Can anyone recommend a cab company that I could pre-book? I don't fancy trying to work something out when we get there with a tired child and 2 large bags!
Thanks
S

To be fair, there's not a great deal to work out smile You go out of the right exit and the cab rank is there. Tell the chap in uniform where you're going, he'll tell the driver, off you go.

It's a flat fee of $45 (I think) plus tolls plus tip. If it's Manhattan, the meter won't be running.

I've used the Supershuttle service a few times - http://www.supershuttle.com/Home.aspx

Not sure if it's any better / worse than a cab, but always worked for me.

Avoid the minibus touts. They'll lump you in with a load of other travellers to drop off. Only use the official Yellow cab rank. Despatcher will sort the ride out for you. Have singles ready to tip driver/hotel porter/ etc. Easier to book a limo to pick you up (tip 20 per cent)

This^^.

Although I think it's $50 flat rate to anywhere in Manhattan. Your hotel will book you the same for the return journey.

Enjoy New York!

100% this. Oh and avoid the minibus touts.

Edit to add: don't recall any tolls though? Maybe it depends which way they take you? Either way it's the most convenient way and not a great deal of difference in cost to the minibuses.

Get your hotel to arrange a town car to collect you.

No hassle - bloke with your name on a board collects you. Job done.

Make sure to tell the driver to take the bridge. Worth the $5 extra tip if it's your first time.

That depends on where you are staying. I asked the Hotel I am staying at and they wanted $236. I said I would get a cab

Alot of people recommend this lot http://www.dial7.com

Sorry about the multiple posting. I only submit once and when I revisit the thread the post appears three to four times. It's all started since I upgraded to Mountain Lion OSX and latest Safari. If anyone can suggest a cure I'd be grateful!

My advice would be to try Chrome, and to avoid those minibus touts.

Taxi rank dead easy and right outside terminal.

Flat fare of $45 to anywhere in manhattan (its actually $45.50, as there is a $0.50c NY state tax added to the flat airport fares)

Just say 'take the bridge' to avoid tolls. You get a better view anyway and in my frequent experience its quicker anyway. NYC taxi riders have the right to dictate the route, so they MUST take you the route you ask.

Round it up with tip to a nice $50

Dial 7 is one limo service I have used a fair amount and will run you to roughly the same cost for their cheapest sedan if pre booked.

You can normally get one of the limo's from behind the taxi rank for $50 to anywhere in Manhattan (we always stay in the Village) if you agree the price first. The drivers are generally a lot friendlier (you'll be with them for 45-60 minutes, depending on the time of day) and we got loads of pointers on where to go from ours. He also collected us at the end of our stay, and deserved his tip. And it was a lot more comfortable than the Nissans that seem prevalent in NYC just now.

Cheers Mr Hawk. Chrome now loaded and running. Duplicate posts deleted. Fingers crossed. Now, where was I? Oh yes - those minibus touts.
