Took C2S for a spin today. Allowed engine to warm up as normal and then tried to boot it in 3rd gear. The engine seemed to develop a flat Spot and the revs shot up but no real acceleration. Happened several times on my trip. No warning lights. Fine at low speed and when accelerating gently. Gear box seems fine as does clutch. Cruises smoothly and not lumpy at idle or low speed.
Any thoughts as to possible cause from the engineering whizzo's?
It's under OPC warranty but was hoping it was more due to lack of a good run then anything serious.

Revs going up but no increase in speed = slipping clutch.

Cruising OK, only showing under acceleration and no warning lights also indicates failing clutch.

One of the things not covered by warranty.

Put the car in 6th gear at around 30 mph and floor the accelerator. If the revs rise without any reasonable acceleration then your clutch is slipping.

Why not get the job done at a decent indie? Save yourself some money over opc rates.

Hi,

If you bought it from an OPC then you will have a two year warranty.

Not sure if this covers the clutch or not?

Clutch is definitely considered a consumable. Replacement cost doesn't look too bad though, given the car.

OPC quote is £1600 for new clutch all fitted. Under warranty but unlikely to be covered unless failed as opposed to worn. Have to get it done at OPC to maintain warranty.

Not sure this is true. Government legislation passed in 2003 (called block exemption) allows independent garages to service your car without you losing your manufacturers warranty - it is still protected. The block exemption assumes that your car is serviced to manufacturers recommendations using original parts or parts to original quality.

Obviously, main dealers won't go out of their way to tell you this.

The block exemption rule relates to the new car warranty. Aftermarket warranties, which a used Porsche warranty is, can stipulate any terms they wish. How someone would know you had a clutch fitted outside the dealership network I'm not sure, but they are well within their rights to insist you use official Porsche dealerships for any work.

I suppose it wouldn't take long to ascertain whether it was done at one of the 36 UK OPC's, and if it wasn't, then new clutch must've been done outside of OPC network.

I think Henry's point might relate to whether you needed to disclose the fact a new clutch had been fitted at all, should you come to make a claim

Get it done at an Indie, should cost £600-700, don't tell anybody. By the time they start to suspect your clutch is everlasting it'll either be out of OPC warranty anyway or you'll have sold it wink

Is this assuming all OPCs are hooked up on the same IT system, because they're not.

Just beware they don't also find a leaky RMS as that will shoot it up to £3k, as a bill from the PO of my C4S testifies.

Then again, would the leaky RMS be covered under warranty and you then would have the labour for free leaving only the cost of the clutch itself?
