Ok chaps have a final edition 450 Chim . My 4th Chim and wanting a little more power for very little money . Brakes and suspension already done . So what would you do and who would you get to do it. I am thnking of spending £1k ish .

Would the results for this money be worthwhile ?

WHY???
Surely it's fast enough already?
Just done a trackday in my standard 400, and no way could I have got around those bends any faster with twice the power. To go faster around bends I need a different car, like the Lotus Exige I couldn't catch. Oh, and a lot more skill.

i'm in the same boat and have been looking into this tonight so some feedback from others would be good.

From lots of reading and posts, i have thought about getting the following, I already have the smooth bore air intake so you might want to get that if not.
vectra injectors from second hand then have them professionally cleaned, about £40 for 8 injectors then about £15 each injector cleaning.
ACT trumpets with SC power plenum spacer and gasket - (195 + 95)
get the inlet manifold ported ???
Leave precats and get main cat out via ACT pipe - 313

this apparantly should give a power rise but also make it much more drivable, massively improve throttle response.
and then i'd save a bit more and get the ECU changed to take advantage of the mods, going either MS or alternatives you're looking at 500-1000 but this should make a massive difference

Megasquirt / Canems install every time.

Main thing here is moving away from clockwork dizzy to a proper mapped spark. If you're on the original setup then your engine won't be as efficient as it can be right across the range. It's just not possible with a standard setup.

Give the boys at Lloyd's Specialist or V8 developments a call and tell then you want mapped fuel and spark. I think the lloyds lot can do it for around a K.
You could be looking at another 20/30 horses if your engine is in good condition.

I suggest you give the car a full health check

Compression test dry and then wet

Leak down test

Rolling road etc

You might find you could be 50hp down from a worn cam, leaking valves wrong spark advance etc

Best replace the worn parts with upgrades rather than upgrading some thing else first IMO

If lloyds can fit and map a canems for 1k then i'm going to send all my cars to them. I can't even do an ecu install for 1k in parts, never mind fitted and mapped!

It's more like £2k than £1k...

Yes the fully fitted and mapped version is more like 2k - sorry to appear misleading. I assumed you'd want to tweak it yourself (that's half the fun!!). Still a bargain tho.... wink
