Fallout, what one?

I've been addicted to Skyrim, 200 hours of play, I think I've reached the end before Dawnguard comes out (PS3).


Best to start with Fallout 3, New Vegas? I need a new game. Will I be disappointed plying the fallout series after Skyrim?

I thought fallout 3 was slightly better than NV, but enjoyed them both.

I liked skyrim, but the setting is a touch generic. Fallout is quite special from a setting point of view.

Fallout 3, definitely. I would get the Game Of The Year Edition, even though some of the extra content is sketchy. I've just finished New Vegas - great story, fantastic setting but poorly implemented unfortunately, so lots of slowing up, crashing etc. If you're a patiet soul it is worth it...

This. Fallout 3 GOTY edition is superb, be prepared to (same as Skyrim) kiss your social life goodbye. But the extra content isn't that great. New Vegas was disappointing in comparison IMHO, too much running around.

Whilst Skyrim and New Vegas were amazing, Fallout 3 was the stand out game of them all for me. As it was released before New Vegas, it would make sense to start with that and it's not dated at all i.e. there's only a few more things you can do in NV.

I think that whilst NV has extra things like different ammo, F3 is better for the variety of things to do, like wear a ghoul mask and creep round the ghouls who don't attack you (or shoot them), blow up or not blow up a town, rescue or not a child, free or enslave slaves.... NV was all too much take this to there, then come back....

I think both are great, i myself preferred New Vegas Start with 3 though and move onto NV.

Definately fallout 3 as a starter!!!

I love the Fallout series. Something about the reality of it makes it a little more immersive. (By reality I dont mean I can walk to Washington and see that before anyone jumps on board. Simply saying how its far more 'real' that skyrim etc)

Definitely Fallout 3.. much more desolate and helpless. Pretty much dumped in the wasteland with no idea, NV is like a fairy tale sometimes mixed with some Bond style missions.

Start with fallout 1 you can probably get it for a quid

This. It's a much more immersive experience. The first thing that happens in the game is you're born, and once you're out in the world one of the first major decisions you get to make is to nuke a town or not, which sets the direction of the character somewhat.

I didn't get on so well with NV, it seemed like it was trying to be a western movie style game part of the time.

Fallout 3 definitely had the more interesting world to explore
new vegas had a bit more depth with the ammo crafting and stuff
fallout 3 is the better bet, but just get both and quit your job

The Brotherhood of Steel add-on for Fallout 3 was pretty good, and useful since it makes the game open-ended. I've played the main game through three times; once good, once evil, and then once as a speed run.

Actually the best thing about new vegas was probably that you didn't have to be the good guy, you could pick sides

Fallout 3 it is guys, think I'm going PS3 rather than PC though, not sure my laptop could cope with it.

If you get the PC version make sure you download the HD texture pack for it. It looks like a completely different game. Graphics are stunning.

And FO3 is by far the better game. It's more varied, there's a better sense of a post apocalyptic world and the storyline is more interesting and involving. NV is like a DLC by comparison IMO.

Was going to ask that . if you go for the PC versions there are loads of hack to enable you to use NV weapons and stuff in the Fallout 3 maps.

Still don't think I've managed to explore all the Subway tunnels yet just to echo, do not kill Roy (if only for the entertainment purposes the ghouls bring)

Do find the companions a bit disappointing (anyone else?) so never really bother with them. Broken Steel addon is a must though (if only to extend the level up)

Fawkes is a very useful one IMO. As is the dog.

Fawkes is a very useful one IMO. As is the dog.

And gives off a pretty epic light show too. His GL is awesome.
