Hi All,

I have a 4x4 that has some oil/grease marks in the boot area and also on one of the rear seats. If you run your hand along the seats it transfers onto your hands very easily. I have tried ‘car plan’ car interior fabric cleaner that is supposed to work on grease/oils etc but except for the now additional horrible smell from this cleaner I haven’t noticed any difference whatsoever.

In the rear boot area the oil smell pervades, especially in the heat, so short of replacing the carpet for something new is there some kind of trick/unusual treatment that someone could recommend?

I don’t really need it to be 100% clean and fragrant but if I can get rid of most of the oil/grease it should make a massive difference.

Any help/tips much appreciated.

Have you tried washing-up liquid and warm water? Just give it a good scrub.

Find one of these ! -

It's what I did last weekend, using some 1001 Machine Cleaner which my girlfriend picked up for 99p!

Got rid of an oil stain in my boot, albeit a dried one. I'm sure it would work wonders for your problem.

Buy some washing soda crystals from your local supermarket. They will be cheap.

Make a solution of a small cup of crystals with 4 or 5 litres of hot water, and scrub the oil with this. It will come off, as if by magic. You can do the same with any other nasty marks or stains in the car and they will probably go the same way.

(How do I know this? 944 with linen interior, and every mark shows! But it does look simply superb when clean ... smile )

Thanks Oli (and all).

I will give the crystals a go but I remember now about dish washing liquid and it breaking down oils etc. I know Bicarb of Soda coming up with regards to cleaning stuff, would this be similar to the crystals?

Anyway I have asked my gf to get me some crystals and I have dish washing liquid at home. With the smell of the oil the smell of the car plan cleaner is just as bad, if not worse, so when I am done I might need to get some kind of carpet deodoriser if I can.

Thanks for the help

Take care with washing up liquid. It will remove the stain, but if you can't wash it out of the carpet/seats completely then it will remain sticky for evermore and attract more dirt very quickly. It will look good for a few days but you will come to regret it.

Got th crystals, thanks, have done a first effort with a strong solution, it needs it. I might need a stiffer scrubbing brush but even if it improves the situation by 50% that will be a result for me, the car stinks of oil/grease etc.

Will update soon, thanks all
