Beautiful but a small Island, so ok for a week maybe but not too much to do. The main town is called Thira or Fira? That's the one with the loverly views looking out to sea. Look at getting scooters to get around, that's what we did when we stayed for a long weekend.

As above really, but also:

The boat trip across to the volcano is OK.
I think the ruins at Akrotiri are open again this year - I haven't been.
The random wineries are worth a look but don't bring any home to the UK, it really isn't THAT good.
There is a village that was destroyed by a earthquake in the middle of last century that they do tours around, which is OK too.
I wouldnt bother with the sunset tour on the West of the island, i've seen better in Norwich to be honest.
In Fira there is a "hole in the wall" Italian Gelato place which is unbelievably good, particularly after a warm evening walk up to the top of the town. You won't miss it, Fira is small and caters very much to the US cruise ships that dock on a regular basis. There are a number of high to very high end jeweller's if spending lots of money is the order of the day.

Enjoy the views across the caldera, it is spectacular.

One of the nicest place I've ever been. Lots of smaller boutique type hotels to chose from.

Agree with the other poster in that we hired a quad for the whole week which meant we could go off exploring to.

As all of the above. Very scenic place. Thira is the main town, Fira is a smaller village type.

Quite expensive for Greece no doubt because of the high end tourist trade. We arrived by ferry from another island which gives great views of the cauldron.
Plenty of small hotels/guest houses to cater for most tastes and wallets.

It is possible to fly to the Island a few charters from the UK.

Was there 1 month back. You can eat very well for 15 euro pp. including starters. Quads are about 15-20 euros a day. Helmets, who needs helmets?

Beach chair rental is about 6-7 euros a day. Tried all the beaches. Some are quiet, some are a bit busier. But as distances are small, if one dones't fit you, you can quickly move on. Sunset at the north end of the Island is the only time where I'm really seen a lot of people together. Thira can be busy too, especially if cruise ships are in town.

But for the rest, it's calm, quiet, the food's very nice and -if you stop by a bakery for lunch for instance- very doable price-wise if you ask me.

Fantastic Place!
Flew over, then island hopped between Paros, Naxos, Kos, Symi, Rhodes.
Amazing experiance.. My hubby is a photographer so he struck gold with all the amazing views.
Greek people are so genuine, welcoming, warm and fantastic hosts. What a heart warming welcome we had!
They are very expresionate as well, their face and hands, all the gestures, they are so real and pure.
Best holiday of ym life was in Greece, and will be going there every year!

Thanks all again!

Would it be too cold there for half term this year? late October into Nov? Or would we be better leaving it until next year?

We went late Sept last year, bit quiet and some of the restaurants were already closed but the weather was great, 28 degrees with a nice breeze.

Great place, but there are big contrasts in prices between the high and low sides of the island... Food, hotels, tours....
