Monza F1 GP Car Parking

I have just booked my flights and GP tickets to this years Italian GP (this will be my first GP ever) I am going to be driving to the circult each day, but can't find anything about car parking.

Does anyone know whether you can prebook car parking at or very near the circuit or can I just turn up on the day?

I could do with knowing where the parking locations are in advance so I can set my satnav up before we leave.

Apparently it's a bit of a nightmare to drive in and out. A lot of people are getting the train - we are.

The parking is inside the track as the track itself it's inside a huuuuuge park.
Anyway you can park for free, the real issue is that arriving/leaving from Vedano al Lambro (ie main entrance, the one that leads to the underpass next to pits) it's quite small hence a long queue. You just have to arrive early/leave late if you want to go smooth.

I went a few years back, stayed in a hotel in central Milan (400 yards from the main railway station) and had hired a car to drive to the circuit but the concierge said not to bother but to take the train as the traffic was appalling on race day.

He was so right. The train is free on race day, drops you at Monza station where a bus takes you into the circuit (bit a a walk at the end).

We came back out at the Lezmo curves at the end of the race to get the train back and were back in the hotel by 4:45pm - superb.

Yes, but basically the problem lies ahead. To get from Milan (or wherever you came from with the motorway) to Monza, you have to drive the SS36 that has at the moment one lane per direction as the other two are occupied by road works to build a new metro line. Last november at a Rally I had to wait 45 minutes to drive out of the circuit to the motorway as that works create a bottle neck.
You can see more detailed info here, but basically during the three days you can only park (paying) at Biassono and then take a free bus to the track.

Basically the best advice I could give you is ..... take the train!

Thanks for the feedback to date, starting to come around to the train option, but It is going to need a lot of trip replanning. Not sure I want to drive and stay in Milan. So need to find another nice location that we could get a direct train from into Monza each day.

Any suggestions?

Mmmhh Dave,

needless to say that Milan would be the easiest and most straightforward solution as Monza is not a major station/on a major line so the number of train stopping there is limited. Basically Every train that runs between Milano and Lecco plus the local trains marked with the S (which runs from Milano to the suburbs) stops in Monza, obviously small are not full of suitable accomodations while in Milan it would be easier. May I dare to ask why would you like to avoid Milano?

I have been to Milano before so was hoping to stay somewhere new. Funny you should mention Lecco as I was just looking at where the train runs to, so that location looks viable, trains appear to take approx 40 mins to Monza.

On the 10th the plan is then to drive to Maranello to take in the Ferrari museum.

I'm staying here, which is out of Milan: http://www.c-hotel.it/en and on the Milan -> Lecco train line. No idea what it's like as I've never been before! Don't know if there's space now either. We booked through Hotels.com

We're camping for a couple of nights at Magic Lake at Lake Como then driving down to the hotel.

like Dan suggested, basically anything on/quite close to the Milan-Lecco line should be fine, try to contact the same hotel...
It's a shame, on the 9 will be at home in Modena, the 10 at work in Milano, we are missing each other for one day....

Thanks again for your help. I checked Dan's hotel but that is fully booked, so will carry on the search, but I think from what you guys have said I will let the train take the strain.

Any hotel/location recommendations for Modena/Maranello?

All sorted, staying in Lecco and getting the train in to Monza. If I am reading the train timetable correctly some take 42 mins (Sub Urbano) and there are some that take 25 mins (Regionale).

Now looking forward to my first F1 race!!!

Yeah, looking at my schedule (I'm a couple of stops along from yours on the same line), it looks like there is a direct quick train, and a slower train which stops at all the towns. I'll be needing to get the slower train, as the quicker one doesn't stop at my town.

Bit annoying there are no early trains on Sunday. Earliest seems to be 9:41 for me. We'll miss the GP2 and GP3 races.

No risk of ending in Geneva, that's another line, worst that can happen you end up in Lake Como, literally in!

I've checked and annoyingly the frequent (and free) train is only from/to Milan, the first one on the Lecco line is at 9:41....

Dave, the best solution if you want to stay in Maranello (actually close to it but not in) is the Maranello Village http://www.hotelmaranellovillage.com/en that can be comfortably reached from Modena, otherwise if in Modena itself, don't have any particular name to suggest, there are a lot of good places, depends on what are you planning in terms of time/things to see/places to visit.
Then there's the restaurant bit, if you want to eat in the area the best option is probably this one:

Thanks Enrico for the info.

Seems that Dan and I must be on different train lines as there seem to be loads of early trains from Lecco on the Sunday, some direct to Monza

Actually you're on the same line, but you are travelling from "main" to "main" station, while he is on a secondary but more close stop. It means that many trains do not stop at his station.
