Ok so im a super Fat Bastid........Help
Discussion
Ok so long story short used to be bit of a fitness freak about 5 year ago 6ft7 used to compete nationally in Judo 120kg weight category with about 15% body fat Uber bulk and took the interservices title once or twice in this category. Whilst beast myself at the gym 4-5x a week.
Unfortunately I then left the forces and got a civvy job and couldnt continue to compete due to work restrictions and couldnt be bothered with Gyms etc in the evenings......too tired from doing proper work
Kicked myself back into it almost 2 years ago and got myself down to a healthyish 19stone and then had a badcar accident that left me unable to bend at the waist for 6 months, meant I had to sell my RX8 and get an Auto and seriously smashed my right knee which is perma fecked!
I have only literally this week been given the all clear to start doing non impact workouts........Problem is I am now a 23stone/300lb Fat bastid extraordinaire.....And have to loose the equivalent of my wife in weight....54kg
I am seriously concerned after having big surgery to my knee consultant told me at 29 not to do any more judo or football or Rowing (which pisses me off more than anything as that was awesome for loosing the weight) or ill need a knee replacement in 10 years....
What do you reccomend guys im s
t with diets and just cant do them If i wanted to loose weight in the past i just went to the gym and did mid to high cardio and then spent about an hour in the weights after 4-5x a week and the weight comes off hard but worth it rather than organising calories etc.
I honestly have no idea where to start or what to do first.

1) Mild calorie deficit - not a diet but a change of lifestyle. You need to be disciplined, but you have that in oodles since you're ex-services.
2) Lift heavy weights (do what you can given your injuries but compound stuff like bench, deadlifts, squats, pull ups).
3) High intensity exercise - for you, perhaps, swimming is a good idea.
That's what I would do if I were in your situation.

If it helps, this is exactly what I did when I left the services! It got pretty ugly but I managed to recover from it lol!
Good luck,
Lee
Could always try aqua-jogging too - a water supported alternative to swimming.
I think the key will be ID'ing a variety of different low impact things to keep you interested.
What about plain old walking? If you use two walking poles to take a bit of impact off the joints and head out to the hills proper it would be something you and your wife could do together (unlike squats, unless she can lie very straight and still while you do all the work...).
Anyway, good luck. I'm just getting to the end of my weight-loss road and boy it feels good, so look forward to it. The hard work is definitely worth it.

1] You don't want or need to lose the Mrs. A loss of 54kg would leave you looking painfully thin @ 6' 7". Hell, I'm aiming for similar and I'm half a foot shorter. I'd look OK at that, so you'd look scrawny at best, IMO.Unfortunately I then left the forces and got a civvy job and couldnt continue to compete due to work restrictions and couldnt be bothered with Gyms etc in the evenings......too tired from doing proper work

2] Sort the diet, then think about what exercise you can do to keep it going. 3 months of getting used to lifestyle change will do far more than gym good intentions and a debilitating injury (squats? With a broken knee?

).So month later cut out a lot of the crap and the diet has improved. 1 stone has gone. bit scared at how much is lost just from cutting out the stuff I don't actually need to eat.
Gym has yet to start as I have been travelling lots with work and I have just been abusing the hotels gyms and swimming pools.
Work is looking fairly stable from DEC on-wards and I have found a great local gym and this gives me the chance to loose a bit more through healthy eating repetitive strain carrying 110kg has got to be better than repetitive strain carrying 130kg.

Very true. With your back and knee issues the lighter you are the better. I would go for light as possible whilst still keeping the shoulders.
Do you currently do compound lifts? I'm not advising them with your history, just wondering.
The aqua jogging sounds good, that's what I did when I was hefty (125kg+) and my ankles were f
ked.Why can no-one spell 'losing' anymore?
The guy had a serious back injury and a knackered knee and people on here are still reccommending deadlifts and squats with heavy weight?! WTF?! They don't fix everything you know and I couldn't think of a more dodgey suggestion.
Just IMO though.
If joint issues are restricting exercise, swimming is the number 1 activity. The water will support your joints at the same time as offering resistance to push against. Do lenths. Set yourself time or distance targets. Try aqua aerobics. Start water polo etc.
Cycling is also a good suggestion. Cross trainers are non-impact, but will stress your knee (mild stress could be exactly what you need to rehabilitate well, however).

Well done mate, I'm also a 'unit', 6ft 7 and 27 stone, ex gym goer turned hard worker with no time for gyms and not much will power.
I'll be reading your thread and hoping for inspiration. Fortunately my health appears to be ok, no real issues other than carrying 10 stone in weight too much.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies.
Also when they performed the arthroscopy they trimmed the tendons to make the cap run true when flexed (in out) rather than before (out flex right snap back down central moving right to left) yes its as painful as it sounds.

I'm surprised the doc said no rowing. I'd always understood that rowing is a zero impact sport due to the weight of the body being supported, akin to swimming. However I'm no expert, so please don't quote me!
How about cycling?
Docs reasoning is to do with the joint contacts. Everything is on 0 bar the lower joint to knee cap is a 2 on the arthritic scale (only goes up to 4)How about cycling?
