Apologies if the stereotype offends anyone, as I know not all OAPs drive the same (my grandfather-in-law is 85 years old, drives an X-Type 3.0 Sport and drives faster than me for instance) but you know what I mean!

When there's a car driving at 60mph down the middle lane holding everyone up when the nearside lane is empty or the car that does 40mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit, what does it tend to be now?

It usually used to be a Nissan Sunny or a Rover Metro/100 or Rover 400/45 but now that these cars are not available new, where are the OAPs spending their money? Jeremy Clarkson suggested in his Sunday Times column that Peugeot were catering for this market now (which may explain what they're playing at but I'm not convinced. Worringly, the last couple of times I have been held up by an elderly driver, they have been driving an E90 3-Series! Is this because they are buying something that they think will last and "see them through" or has this just been a coincidence? Has anyone else noticed any patterns? What currently is the average OAPs car of choice?

Kia Picanto's driven by myopic 85 year old's seem to be the bane of my existence at the moment.

Honda Jazz smile

Usually found to be dawdling down the road with a coffin dodger perched on a cushion gripping the wheel on their way to the local bingo hall to spunk their pension on "the bandits"

Feckin old people. Should be compelled to shuffle off the mortal coil as soon as they entertain ideas of still driving....

Hyundais mainly. They had a good deal on the scrappage scheme so loads of OAPs swapped their old cars for them.

Kia Souls I've noticed.
My next door neighbour has gone through 2 in the last couple of years, the latest being black with white wheels and a 'sporty' white stripe down the length of the car.

the OAP-est driver I know has an E90 316d. I think that many now are of the generation that saw BMW's rise in the '80s and see them as a car which will last, as well as being very frugal. I think a 3-Series (usually not M-Sport) is about right.

My grandad is in his mid-80s and drives a 2006 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 5dr with a manual box. Its even got power folding mirrors. He used to have a Mk1 R-reg Megane but has he had a knee op, he wanted something a bit easier to get in.

I'm 33 and my wife is 32. We drive a Jazz primarily because its great for the kids - folding flat rear seats and loads of space in the back. I do agree it has a ahem certain image though.

Ok, so how did you get that high to take the photo. Or is it just a dinky toy and you were on your knees?
