A303 Illminster bypass heading towards Taunton.

The Gatso has gone. Does this mean that we'll be seeing an increase in mobile traps on the A303 now?

If you ever witnessed a camera being smoked would you call the police or call into the cornershop for beer and marshmellows to toast? I know what i'd do...

I seem to recall one of the surveys that produced the "703% of the public think Speed Camera Partnership Managers should be offered free naked women paid for by the public" showed a large number of motorists would not report someone seen destroying a Speed Camera.

If the camera was sited where it is dangerous to speed e.g. near a school or on a highstreet, then I would report the vandals. However, I am yet to see one located in such a way.....

It could be sited outside a primary school and being smoked at 3:30pm on a Tuesday and I'd still offer to buy the guy a beer.

Speed cameras do not work and are unnecessary! Unless their real aim is the collection of £££, but we all know that isn't the case, don't we?

I know that now.
To be caught at 70 on a dual lane road really made my day. Not.

If it's that section of the A303 then technically not a dual carriageway because one side or other is always a single carriageway.

Grass is a permanent barrier as far as the law is concerned. I believe the exact word is a "construction".

Basically, two lanes seperated by paint=60, by anything else, 70. Barriers are not needed.

Thanks Blairout I was just going to ask this. There is a section of the A6 Sheffield side of Buxton that has a DC with a grass reservation.

Depends where the camera is placed.

I have only ever witnessed one camera that I feel is correctly placed. It's on the A358 at the bottom of a hill just at the entry to a village (Chicklade I think). The hill is a NSL road and then there is a drop to 40 as 2 lanes merge to one and a drop to 30 about 100 yards later. Personally I believe that the camera is correctly placed as there are houses on both sides of the road and the thought of some monkey hurtling through at 60 when a kid runs into the road doesn't bear thinking about. About 6 months ago the camera was torched. If I'd seen someone doing that one then I'd have called the police. Otherwise, nah, chuck us a beer!

This line of reasoning is precisely why we've got these bloody machines everywhere today.

There are NO correctly sited scameras. Its that simple.
If "some monkey" did go hurtling through at 60, and the camera flashed him and the kid ran out, what do you think the possible outcome would be?
Scamera saves kiddy? No.Kiddy still dies. So its a pointless exercise to have them ANYWHERE!
They save NO ONE, and they never will, as the dangerous minority of tossers that do go hammering around are either uninsured, illegal drivers or car theives. How much notice are they gonna take of a [super sarcasm on] "Safety scamera"? [super sarcasm off].

If i ever see someone torching a scamera ill give em a hand, no matter where the dammed things sited.
Theyre a blot on the landscape and just another goddamed hazard to have to look out for. No wonder deaths are up!
