Halfords own brand oil

Is it any good? Any better or worse than the competition? Just their standard 5w30 and 10w40 I'm on about.

I ran a mk1 clio 1.2 from 18k to 120k on their 5/40, and I beat the st out of that engine.

Look at the specs on the side of the bottle and do some research on Google. Odds are that it is perfectly fine for 99% of cars on the road, and represents a good saving on the (unnecessarily over-specced) likes of Mobil 1, Royal Purple and so on that most people rave on about.

I heard it was made by Comma. It meets most relevant manufacturer approvals and often comes with free screwdrivers. I'd buy it again.

I have been using their 5w30 semi synthetic in my rx8 for a few years now and it seems to like it better than castrol that I used to use. It also handily comes in a 5 litre bottle unlike all the named brand which are 4 litre bottles.

It's made by Esso (I work for the company), and is pretty good. I run my BMW on Mobil 1, but all my other cars and my girlfriend's have got Halfords stuff and you would struggle to notice the difference. As both Esso and Mobil are part of the same parent company, this doesn't surprise me!

On a high-performance engine I would stick to the original manufacturer-recommended oil as closely as possible, but for run-of-the-mill stuff Halfords brand is absolutely fine. The range has been expanding recently so that almost any car on the road can have its exact specifications matched (5W/30 fully synthetic specific to Volvo's requirements, for example).

Just kidding. good stuff & great value. I ran my fiesta from 60k-110k without any problems, it drank abit of oil, so I always had some of the halfords stuff in the boot to top it up when needed.

He's only got an S2 cut him some slack, though I think it's often in bits on the road outside his house, maybe he should use better oil .

Now what ?. If I had one of those I'd stick an 8v head and a turbo on it .

I've used it on a couple of cars including the Integra and found it to be good to be honest.

Nah - I don't want to do that much work and end up with an inferior car!

(Now, putting a V8 in it is tickling my fancy a little at the moment. I'm spending WAY too much time on renegadehybrids today ... )

Just buy a Monaro or TVR.

The only issue I've had was when I ran it in my SC'd MX5 it used to use and fair bit (something like a litre every 800 miles).

I mentioned it on an MX5 forum and it seemed mine wasn't the only car that did this.

Moved back to a named oil of the same spec and the oil usage reduced (to approx a litre every 2k).
