mini cooper s intercooler question?
Discussion
hello i was wondering if anyone could help. what it is iv fitted a mini cooper s supercharger and intake manifold and intercooler to my car and was running fine but i fitted a front mount intercooler because the top one was getting hot, but ever since i fitted the front mount the car just wants to stall at low revs, and i was wondering if anyone had probplems with there mini cooper s running weird after running a fmi.

I don't know much about modifying the MCS but I can tell you that what you have is called Idle Droop. I'm guessing it actually idles and drives fine but the revs drop right down when you come to a junction. It's caused by the increased throttled volume i.e. the volume of air between the throttle and the cylinder head.
I'd guess that, if this is a normal mod on a road car then there will be a fix for it, either some kind of ecu flash maybe or something more interesting like a dual-throttle kit (which is what I have on my MX5 which has a big IC at the front of the car).
I'm sure someone with 1st hand knowledge will be along soon...

yer thats exactly whats happening, on the intake manifold iv got a little vaccum pipe coming off going to my ecu map senser and T'ing into boost gauage but soon as i pull the pipe off the car runs fine and drives normal and doesnt stall at all but obviously lose most of your boost, soon as you put it back on it stalls again, so just conjused if its the sensor problem or maybe needs mapping again.

Are you saying it runs well when you pull the vacuum pipe off that feeds the MAP sensor? That's wrong. Even though you are losing boost it should run very lean in boost if the MAP sensor isn't getting a vacuum feed! I expect the idle would be fine like that though as the vacuum level in the pipes will stabilise quicker that way. That doesn't help you at all though.
eManage blue is very simple to tune, even I can do it! Ask at you local rolling road and they will be able to recommend someone.
While I say I can do it, I wouldn't do the timing map as I'd rather trust someone who knows what they are doing. Fuelling is simple but you can easily blow an engine with bad timing.
