Anyone put a vw/audi 1.8T into a 944 or 924...?
Discussion
I haven't heard of anyone doing it, but one would have to ask "why"?
The Audi motor doesn't impress me in an Audi, why would it work any better in a 924/944, which in my opinion, is a superior chassis.
There have been a lot of motors put into the 924/944 including some pretty potent V6 and V8 combinations. As for the Audi mill, I don't really see much motivation to go that direction.

What a rotten idea !
The VAG Turbo engine may be efficient but it sounds like a dyson - awful !
You would need to pay someone a fortune to get them to buy such a conversion when you want to sell it !
There are plenty of 944's being broken. Do the right thing and get the right motor.
IMO,

Ok calm it boys...
The reason behind the question is purely for research basis.
For starters I know the VAG 1.8T isn't the nicest sounding engine in the world, but currently its one of the most tuneable. I have a corrado 4wd with a VAG 20v 1.8T and I'm running it near 360bhp. It’s reliable, very drivable, little to no turbo lag, and to be frank it would leave most things standing! But the point behind the topic is because I want to fit the Porsche 944 running gear to my car instead of the 4wd, to promote better weight distribution with the gearbox being at the rear of the car etc... and also because I fancy something different..
I have heard that people have fitted these engines into 944's and 924's and wanted to speak to a couple of people, that’s all.. Its a boring engine in terms of sound, but when you think that it returns 40mpg off boost and has had no internals upgrades, just a new turbo, manifold and stand alone engine management, 360 realible bhp isn't bad at all, IMO....

Its beginning to make more sense now...
I know those engines can generate big grunt. I think the Formula Palmer Audi's have got 350 hp plus...
Not for the purist I guess. But it would make a quick , cheap (ish) and useful piece of kit.
Must admit that I don't know anyone who's done it though.
Good luck !
Its not uncommon to have the 944/ 968 mill hooked up to a chuffing bi supercharger !
Should chuck out 350 bhp plus !
www.ninemeister.com have done it..

Are you sure there's enough room for a 944 gearbox ?
plenty of room, I've got a 4wd rear axle in there at the moment, just a case of re-engineering the rear boot... I would show a picture or 2 but my website is currently down...
