Sorry! Another insurance question
Discussion
Just been trying to help a mate sort his insurance as its his first renewal but have been getting some weird prices back.
He is 26 and has a jaguar xjs 2.1. When he bought the car his insurance was about £1200 a year, and his renewal has just come in at nearly £3000. After ringing round have managed to bring it down, but what has confused us is that if he declares his first years ncb the policy price goes up rather than down. One of the companies he rang stated that if he renewed before his current expires then technically he hasn't got a years no claims so doesn't have to declare it. How true is this and what are the rules regarding ncb. Is saying you have none fraud when you have or is it up to you if you declare them or not.
Thanks Marky

Its entirely up to you if you wish to use your no claims on any particular policy. If you have two cars with independant policies you end up with 2 ncbs anyway because you can't use it on more than one car. If he's renewing early this is an ideal opportunity to see if it is cheaper to be new business even vs 1 yr ncb.
Of course it doesn mean in a years time he will still only have one and not 2. You might like to try some quotes on that too - with on-line quotes its easy to test.

Why are you trying to renew before the current one expires? If you wait you will have a year. Simples.
You haven't read the post properly. His renewal has come through and it has gone up. The quotes he has been getting are coming out cheaper if he states he has no ncb rather than 1 years ncb.marky1983 said:

Yep, I'm confused, it's this bit that I was referring to;"One of the companies he rang stated that if he renewed before his current expires then technically he hasn't got a years no claims so doesn't have to declare it."
