Sounds great now like it should of from the factory, Ive blown about 25quid on petrol since in a few hours cause you cant resist giving it sum, pops, bangs lots of stares LOVE IT!!

One hard job done, next weekend im attempting the front suspension bushes...Any tips gratefully recieved..

Already been warned about that one so will leave it to the experts when required.

What did you do to silencer? sleeving job? Did you leave the wadding in?

A few questions please as mine may get done soon - time and skint knuckles apart, is it a job an average DIYer might handle? 1 or 2man job? Did you use a pit or ramps? and where did you get gaskets & how much?
Ta for any pointers...

Having tried to tighten the manifold bolts on a couple of occaisions since they generally work loose. Respect to anyone that undertakes the gasket replacement themselves. Due to the time and effort it isn't a cheap job when the experts do it!

Robert, I would class it as a DIY job if you have a range of tools, I did mine the following way. Car on ramps at front and axle stands on the back. Fistly start the car get it hot, this helped me undo the majority of the top nuts straight away, with the odd burn to hand... Then Undo the battery!! Then crawl underneath front and undo exhaust clamp and theres one that goes to the block all 13mm.

I then undid the tray on the exhaust to car 6X17mm nuts, Then reomove the anti roll bar away from the car this is 4 x 13mm nuts and one at the top (you will see what i mean)..then slide to one side...with a good tug the exhaust should then come off...In the front of the engine now need to remove the Y piece, this is 2 X 10mm nuts remove the clips should then pull up.

Next remove the starter this is 2 X Allen bolts size 8 if i remember correctly, undo the wires and pull away. Now the pain the remaining 8 bolts underneath, you can get to these with a variety of 9/16 spanners..There are 2 particular that were hard the ones above the engine mounts they move a quarter of a turn at a time with my spanners anyway. Once all undone unplug lambda sensors and pull monifolds away. I was unable to get the drivers side out completely but enough just to turn it over and clean the faces of block and manifold, install new gaskets then put back..and thats basically about it...now for the great bit refitting is the reversal of removal...

Dont think ive missed anything out well worth doing if its blowing and now its done its done... think of the money you save...gaskets cost me £10 from a mate but there dead cheap anyway, LandRover V8 ones...

As for the exhaust Mod I cut the box in half but not through the tubes, removed the wadding then cut and slid solid pipes over the perforated pipes inside, welded them on one end to stop them moving around then welded the box back up...On startup I knew why so many people have this done!...

My advice if its blowing do it at the same time the exhuast is off, mkaes driving the chim an even more enjoyable experience.

Good Luck
