97 Ron in Scotland
Discussion
Looking to do a tour of Scottish Highlands later this summer in an RS Megane. Other than Oban, Fort William and Inverness can anybody help me with anywhere I can get 97/98 RON fuel North of the Great Glen? The range for the Megane isnt that great (around 300 miles max the way I drive and I am expecting much less on the twisties) and I was hoping to avoid either filling with 95 or having to keep driving back to Inverness or Fort William for a refuel.

Aberdeen has a BP station that does 97 ron, not sure other than thatMost Tesco filling stations seem to have higher octane petrol (Momentum ?). The one in Tain did have some last year, and I believe there is one in Thurso too, although I haven't been there, so don't blame me if I'm wrong.
Although as said above a tank or two of 95RON isn't going to hurt.

you do know a few tanks of 95 won't kill it....
Its a good question from the OP.I am planning such a trip next year too, in my RS4.
That can only be run on 95 in an emergency, and when it is, you cannot use full power.
I NEVER put 95 in anyway, but it also states the above in the owners manual too

The knock control will automatically adjust the timing to avoid pinking and you'll get very slightly reduced power (imperceptible?) There's no emergency about it, it will do your car no harm whatsoever.I NEVER put 95 in anyway, but it also states the above in the owners manual too
Got back from a weekend Highlands round trip a couple of weeks ago - had the same concern / questions as you before I went...
I found:
- Plenty of options in Inverness
- The Gleaner station in Ullapool, as others have mentioned. Although there were only two 97 RON nozzles and one of them was out of action...I was mighty relieved when I spotted the second
- A station (Esso, I think?) in Broadford, Isle of Skye
- At least one option on the road into Fort William
Have a great trip!

I read in a motoring mag a few months ago (can't remember which one)that super unleaded was not common once you were in the highlands and islands.I am planning such a trip next year too, in my RS4.

I just finished a trip around Oban, Fort William area and although I found stations in Oban and FW that did, outside the towns most didn't.
Hence the question.
I would guess though that your RS4 has a much bigger tank/range than my 265 so it might not be as big an issue.

Have you ever run a high powered turbo car on 95? It does them no good at all!Especially when they are mapped for it too.
As I said, I never use 95 anyway, the price difference on a full tank is hardly noticable so why not?
Plus, for the manual to specify only using 95 in an emergency (ie when anything higher is not available!) must mean something.
Note that the B5 S4 does not have the same warning, only the B5 RS4
