Info/Help on 4.3Bv grifs
Discussion
Howdo all,
Right, first post, so hello. Been lurking a while, reading up rather than jumping straight in.
Basically arethere 2 seperate engines, 4.3 and a 4.3BV or when you see a 4.3 Grif advertised it is the same as when 4.3BV is advertised?
Oh and grrrrr to James Agger for selling the 4.3BV he had going as I was planning on having a look at that one this weekend
Thanks for the low down all

She's luverly - and mine

Being an owner of a big valve for some 6 odd years now and having had the pleasure many times to have had mine burbling away next to a catted car which tend to be drowned out by the nascar sound of a pre-cat bv.
I can hear the difference, not just because its louder of course but its the heavy tweaking these lumps got at the time, higher comp ratios, cam ,lightened flywheel etc etc that make this free reving engine absolutely gorgeous.
I'm realy glad that i've got one,you get alot of spec talk from the 5 ltr boys about how more powerfull their engine is but I gladly suffer the indignity of a few hp's loss for the bv experience.

), but sounds out of this world - nascar definitely sums it up! Performance-wise, I don't feel I'm losing out a great deal compared to 500s - I seem to 'keep up' ok, a big valve must be awesome
300bhp+??

You wouldn't like to reciprocate, would you, Ian?
I've never been in a BV, you see.

Sorry DJC, we seem to have strayed from the point a bit.
I am sure I read somewhere the 4.3 engine could be upgraded as an optional extra you could buy for about £2,500 when you ordered the car and it gave you extra BHP. Something line 280bhp for the standard 4.3 and around 300bhp for the BV. I wouldn't get too hung up on it though, chances are you will never get to use it all and can't tell the difference anyway.
My advice, look for a really good car. It's quickly obvious when they aren't. Be prepared to compromise on colour if you find a good one. If its waxoyled and got a good service history, or the current owner discusses oil rather than speed the chances are you on to a good one. I actually wanted the blue/magnolia or red/magnolia but ended up with green/tan ! But hey, they are all beautiful aren't they

Mine is 4.3bv, the bv conversion was an option when you ordered the car from the factory and cost
£2,404. For you extra money as well as big valves you got Gas flow and polished heads, reprofiled cam, lightening and balancing the fly wheel and remapping the management system.Resulting in 300 plus bhp and a very quick car.
