I had an off road experience last week & hit the front left corner into a 12" square wooden post at 40/50 mph. Damaged wing, light, bonnet, split drivers wing from light up 18" , pushed wheel back, split rad, then car went sideways into bushes damaging hood & snapping roof hoop, the door has split along its bottem edge.
The recovery bloke pulled it out then drove up road to a "safe place" & left it running 5 mins till I got there - he didn't know there was fluid gushing out !!

Insurance assessor coming today from Quality repair centre who are a More Than insurance owned company.
What are my options with getting car mended elsewhere as I don't think they will do a good enough job.

I've priced parts up & at £4500 just for the bits with half been second hand. Car is a 93 4litre 43k miles wIth full service history. Will put photos up later .

You need to be prepared for it to be written off.

You can state that you want the car repaired at a specific repair centre/specialist. It's worth reading your policy small print but i'm pretty sure they can't insist you use one of their places.

I used to have an MG RV8 which was damaged and Dirct Line wanted me to take it to one of their approved bodyshops - I knew the place wasn't good due to previous experience and insisted the car went to a place I knew. They did agree but made it difficult as first they had to assess the place and add them to their approved list of repairers before the claim could be settled.

Might be worth getting the repairer to change the brakes at the same time scratchchin Just messing, sorry to hear about the accident, hope you're ok.

You can insist on your own repairer and TBH I'd want evidence from the Qulity repair centre they have the expertise required to repair GRP. Most insurance 'approved' bodyshops will turn away this work due to not being able to work on it.

Every chance will be a "total loss" I'd have thought (do you have agreed value)?

Buy salvage back and have repaired anywhere you choose.

Agreed - the insurer/repair centre is unlikely to use 2nd hand parts. On top of the £4500 you've priced upo, there'll be a shed load of labour and of course, paint costs.

If it does get repaired, it might be woth looking at the outriggers while it's off the road and having so much work done.

Only injury was a cut finger picking headlight bits up.
When I hit post all I could hear was my old army pursuit driving instructor shouting " stupidity beats speed every time " he was right again. It's got Scorpio calipers on but they don't work on wet grass!
Now planning light conversions, outriggers colour change - white to ???? & she saying get rid & use money for home improvements !!!

Pah, what does she know?! biggrin

I must admit, I would be very tempted to go the whole hog with outriggers, light conversion, full re-spray etc...it makes sense while the car is in the bodyshop and already in bits. idea

So long as your house is watertight and everything works, it must be the 2nd priority!!!
