You know sometimes when you're driving, something comes on the stereo that is just perfect for the moment you're in?

I left home the other month at 5am and drove into the dawn in the Fens in an old P38 Range Rover. "Rest my chemistry" by Interpol came on - and it was bloody brilliant.

Any other suggestions for a perfect soundtrack to a perfect moment in a car - track, car, and context if you please!

Just fitted my new coilovers to the Mazda MX5 and took it for a spin down my favourite B-Road, iPod on shuffle. Foo Fighters 'Learn to Fly' comes on - perfect...

Quite a few years ago, driving across the bridge onto Hayling Island in my first ever convertible, the top down, sea sparkling on both sides, clear blue skies, and the DJ on the radio says "there are only a few days of the year it's worth owning a convertible, and I reckon this is one of them" and proceeded to play Don Henley, Boys Of Summer. Perfect. cool

Know exactly what you mean...

Journey: uplifting early morning b road blast during the golden hour
Car: vx220 turbo
Soundtrack: The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

Journey: chilled drive home with the lady, at dusk, on a stuffy summers evening
Car: vx220 turbo with roof off
Soundtrack: The Doves - Cedar Room

Journey: long distance assault into mainland europe, high speed multi car convoy, crossing the millau viaduct
Car: Jaguar with stunning Bowers & Wilkins audio system and trade mark drama filled cabin
Soundtrack: Chase & Status - Blind Faith

All life affirming stuff..

In the back of a Lincoln Town Car limo, heading onto the Vegas strip for the first time with a rock radio station on, with Rush - Spirit of Radio playing. After sunset, properly dark and the place is lit up, driving slowly past the Bellagio fountains listening to that song is something I will never forget.

Driving an empty coach back to Cheltenham on the A40 a few years ago when I ran into patchy fog about 11pm on a dark night just as Ray Parker Jnr started sing "Ghostbusters"

I tend to find the best soundtrack in my Z4M is stereo off and the roof and windows down!

The specific time is as often as possible.

Making progress in a Z4 down a cheshire half A half B road, brilliant sunshine roof down.

I think "hang on I have all the time in the world" so I back off, stick the radio on and its playing The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary. smile

Perfect.

I really miss a convertible!

Nipped out from a small party with a friend to get everyone fish and chips. Im parked in a side street in my bmw 5 seres (e39), friend jumps in and we rush off back to the party. Just as he gets in and we go the James Bond theme tune comes on the radio.
Feel like some sort of fish and chip getaway driver laugh We still laugh about it now.

Driving to a notorious unofficial Welsh dive site for the first time. Convoying with some friends, we got to the Conwy tunnels. Driving a tractor these days the stereo had to suffice. I hadn't really noticed until the music restarted that it had been perfectly quiet, until the Tron Legacy soundtrack started up, just the right light, just the right speed, just the right feeling. Derezzed kicked in as I was pulling into the village behind which the quarry lies.

Epic drive. Perfect track. Great diving.

Pink Floyd all the way home.

Driving through cheddar gorge following a tractor.

"I've got a brand new combine harvester" by the Wurzels.

I might have made that up.

Not long passed my test, new found freedom for a 17yo...found the perfect young lady for a bit of summer night topless action in the MG, parked on cliff top, walk along the beach, back to the car to watch the stars.

Switch radio on hoping that the local 'late night love, erection section' station will be playing a bit of Barry White to accompany my companions wandering hands only to find our ears assaulted with 'star trekkin across the universe' ... Ah happy days!

Does anyone remember the arcade and computer game 'Out Run'?

I had a copy of the theme tunes that the arcade game played as you drove, on a tape.

When I first got my licence, if I gave a mate a lift, I'd often put that tape on, for a laugh! I would then obviously be tempted to say the immortal words 'watch this'...but didn't smile

don't recognise most of the tracks mentioned biggrin

I was driving top-down a few weeks back when "Darude - Feel the Beat" came on the radio - epic! A link to the vid below (the yellow Dodge Viper looks great!), illegally downloaded the track later that day smile

Twisty A-road, clear morning. Metallica: The Call of Ktulu from the live album: Symphony and Metal.

Same car, driving in light traffic on another, less twisty a-road. Cardigans; Favourite Game (Gran Turismo 2, anyone?!)

From my old house it used to be just a perfect distance to shove "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac on. That Part - you know the one I mean! - would come on just as I hit the NSL.

Had to pick up a hire car in New York City a couple of years ago and drive to Boston. Was quite nervous about the whole business having never driven in the city before and see the way most New Yorkers drive. Picked up some big ass SUV from a Hertz garage in midtown and nervously reversed it out into the street. Decided to turn on the radio and have a bit of music - it was already dialled in to KISS97 and they just happened to be playing a "greatest rap songs ever" hour or something - every track was a golden tune of my youth - Run Dmc, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Rakim. Cruised around the mean streets of New York City, window down, stereo right up, massive grin on my face, feeling like a bad motherfker ( although I probably looked like a tt). Great times
