Well the steering rack will finally be off tomoz and sent off for a refurb..

Engine oils, gearbox and diff oils done, changed the slave cyl and unbolted the clutch master cyl, today..
I was thinking the m.cyl would slide off the rod on the rear of the clutch pedal, but no.. There is a wee pin through the pedal/rod and I can't get it out to see how the rod attaches to the master cyl, as the one thats been delivered to me doesn't have a rod.. I suppose I must use my old rod!

How do you get the pin out, or am I going to have to hacksaw it off as per the other wedgers post..

As the cars in the air on stands and my garage isn't the widest, the easiest way to do this job, hood off and lay across the gearbox tunnel with head deep in the drivers footwell. Which made the wife titter when she brought me a coffee, all she could see we're me socks.. (not wanting foot prints on the interior)

Should my new m.cyl have a rod or do I use the old one..

a clevis pin holds the rod to pedal and they can be a little stubborn to get off if been on a while! yes you will need to reuse rod, the rod is held on to master cylinder with circlip so you'll have to remove cylinder from car first

Yer a genius. Found the clip in question. A little greasy n mankie but got there, swapped the rods and bolted back together, which was hilarious for her in doors when once again she appeared to find socks dropped over the hood.. Coz me head was deep in the footwell, shouting at the car..

Clutch bled, got gears.. Good to go, oh once the racks back on.. All in all, a productive few days off work.

Cheers again

Yep there's two ways to sit in a wedge
Legs up and legs down
Me thinks one is more fun than the other.

I agree, the view out the windscreen is better than the wiring harness and pedals..

Not so sure about that Si. From my footwell i can see into the engine bay thro the hole where the speedo cable should go, or if i get bored with that i can look to the floor and see the road thro the bolt holes for the fixed racing seats. For an even better view and my fav is down the gearstick, from there i can see the box and the road! smile

al. Why make things easy by removing the seat.. The prob is, the door didn't open enough to get even my wee chicken thigh legs in let alone my body.. So hood down, slip in an clamber onto the gearbox tunnel, swivel round without the handbrake ending up me Rec@@@ then dive head first into the footwell.. feet draped onto the boot over the hood!

I was going to wait and do the master cyl once i had the steering rack back on, move the car against the wall on the passenger side or even out into the drive. But the rack won't be back until next week and I am impatient so, head first as they say.. But thankfully your advice made the job easier this morning..

So all back and gears, just no steering..

All jobs done now.. Like a new mota..

Marcus, I recall a holiday once, which on one trip I went out in a glass bottomed boat, viewing the sealife below.. You're very lucky, you can view the Asphalt from above.. And you have air con...

Just waiting for Ding-Bro's quote on refurbish the rack.. They'll call tomorrow, but let's face it, it needs to be done.. They better not loose that one of a kind rack..

Hi Si, glad to see your getting into the swing of it, it's good excersice working on these cars albeit strange looking when someone passes by. Sandy breaks his fingers first then feeds his arm up into the place thats needing fixed.
At least you'll be ready for the Nail run.

Jonny, nearly there.. Just the rack then tracking, should then be ready for the RNR..
I ain't spending anymore on the old bus this year.. What I've spent on oils, cylinders and the rack I could have been away on 2 holidays, hence the scowls from her indoors.. I'm hiding all the receipts in the meantime.. I'm sure I told her the rack was a £50 fix. LOL
