Supertest in Sport Auto 01/1998
996 300 bhp Coupe Nordschleife 8.17 min
against
993 285 bhp Coupe Nordschleife 8.28 min

Saw this on another thread, it got me wondering. I know many factors come into play but would an RS keep up with the 996 round the Ring?

At Castle Coombe recently a new C4S owner reckoned my RS should be quicker than his on that track!!?? I was very surprised!

Any thoughts?

Don't have the numbers, but i do know you have to try really hard in a 993RS (on road tyres) to keep an enthusiasticly driven 996 C4S at bay.

Again it depends on the circuit.

Having driven both, I do beleive the 993RS driver will have more fun from the experience as long as they put the effort in.

St Marys or no name at goodwood with a light downpoor realy makes it 'fun'
Interestingly the best driver I know has a Boxter S and can keep us all honist despite a concidrable BHP defecit.I guess that shows what a fantastic well balanced car the boxter is!
I think the same goes for the 993RS it is superbly balanced but you need confidence to exploit it a C4S is too heavy for regular track work but in hands of anyone it inspires superb confidence quickley.

Walter Rohl did 8.10 in a 993RS on road tyres back in 1995. Given the difference between road tyres (Bridgestone SO2s and P-Zeros came with the RS) and today's Michelin Cup tyres, I would have thought a sub-8 minute lap is possible - but only if your first name is Walter!
