Hey all, here's the deal ....

My old man has been offered a new company car and I'm on the insurance so I'm going to be stealing it a lot!!

Choices are ...

Jetta diesel saloon 1.6 tdi Cr se
Passat diesel saloon 1.6 tdi

I assume the above run the same engine??

Mondeo Diesel Hatch 1.6 Tdci zetec
Golf Diesel Hatch 1.6 Tdi 105
Focus Diesel Hatch 1.6 Tdci

At the minute we have a laguna 2.0 petrol estate, so looking forward to something with a bit more punch! Pretty gutless engine imho

So purely on drive-performance-ease to live with, who would reccommend what?? Not too bothered about reliabilty etc as all the repairs and servicing is free!

Ta for the input guys

None of those cars have anything even resembling 'punch'

Given they are all slow, you might as well go for another target, which is cheapest, comfiest etc?

I very much that any of them will have more punch.

I'd go Mondeo; good cars.

I'm not saying any will have 'punch' just might be a little more lively than the crappy 2 litre petrol in the huge laguna estate ... Pitiful.

Back on topic, which is the most fun/best car

Hopefully he can opt out!

Sorry OP, you may then be truly stuffed.

I've been in both the passat and mondo today and the passat is miles ahead in terms of build quality and interior feel. The mondeo looks good on paper but it just didn't feel up to the standards that VW put out there

I'm running a 1.6 TDI SE Passat as my daily smoker just now.

Plenty quick enough for 'normal' driving and will do 65+MPG on a run.

Tax is very low which is all that really matters.

Doesn't really matter what the OP thinks, he's not the one choosing...

We could all say THE PASSAT and his old man may choose the Focus

1.6TDCI is only a decent engine in a Fiesta. It's pants in a Focus. God help anyone buying a Mondeo with that boat anchor in it.

NONE of those will be anywhere as good as a 2 litre Passat, if you think they will be, you're dreaming.

I'd go for the one with the most comfortable interior, because the 1.6 diesel lump up front is going to bore the pants off you
