Gentlemen, can you clear something up for me please. Were transponders fitted to all TC cars by the factory, or is this something that had to be added later? Do dataloggers have a transponder, or is this an entirely different bit of kit? A car I'm looking at was built to race, has Stack dash and Racetech gauges, but was never raced in its current form. It has no datalogger and its unclear whether the car has a transponder or not. Many thanks.
The transponder is used by the timing guys to time the car as it crosses a point on the circuit.
The cars were not supplied with one, and they have changed at least once, if the car was never raced, you'll need to get to tsl-timing.co.uk and order one. the transponder is a small box somewhere in the car about the size of a small packet of fags, it will be positioned so its bottom is visible to the ground, have a 12v feed and usually a led to say its working. probably red.
you can get battery ones, but if you have and dont know where it is it will be dead by now..
The data loggers are a separate bit of kit. they are only mandatory for class B to control the Power / weight limit but others use them as they are a very useful bit of kit, providing valuable feedback. They do not have a transponder, but use accelerometers and gps
the data loggers we use are Race-Technology DL1's
