12-13k what car - small hatch and dealer discounts
Discussion
A colleague of mine is after a Fiesta or MINI sized car, ideally new with a budget as stated above. At present she is not certain what she wants (needs to test drive a few at the weekend) but it needs some oomph without being hot hatch quick, so MINI Cooper for example ratyher than Cooper S.
So as well as recommendations what sort of prices should she be looking to pay. Eg a Fiesta Zetec is quoted, before options on Fords website at 12.5k but what sort of proce would you expect to sign on the line for (assuming dealer finance taken to help sweeten the deal a little)?
Her current options, though some not quite within budget at MRRP are;
MINI Cooper D
Seat Ibiza
Fiesta
Polo

I always have a look at 'drive the deal' to see what kind of discount they give. It at least gives you a ballpark figure to be looking at. You can then see how close local dealers can get to this figure.
I wouldn't even suggest which car to choose. Women are a law unto themselves and have completely different priorities in cars to what I would want.
Saying that, out of that lot it will end up being the MINI. Always the MINI.

Good luck. Within a dozen replies someone will be telling you she is wrong, you should tell her so and she needs to buy a 10yr old Merc S500 and put the other 7 grand towards fuel.So as well as recommendations what sort of prices should she be looking to pay. Anyways, female colleague of mine was just looking at a new Fiesta and was getting quoted 22% off brochure price for a brand new one.
At that price point I'd be looking at Mini or A1 myself as they'll have the strongest residuals and also puts her in nearly new territory where the dealership's junior sales staff will have spec'd one up, given the company a £5k bath and be right in budget with probably less than 10k miles on it.

Could you imagine spending £13,000 and ending up with a Fiesta though?!PS. I'd also go for an A1 I think.
