Anyone taken part in an Oulton Park drift day recently?

Looks good fun. The only worry is the stacked tyres on the inside of the corners. They look like an expensive accident waiting to happen.

A mates been a few times, you won't be going very quickly on the surface if you do hit them, think he's hit them once and ended up with a scuffed bumper. It's a low friction surface so you don't generally go flying into them at massive speed unless you're trying to be very committed.

I'd be annoyed with myself even with so much as a scuffed bumper! Guess extra care will be the order of the day.

Drifting may be a bad choice of spending time if you're worried about scuffing bumpers hehe

Most of the drifting videos i've seen had cars with mismatched or damaged front and rear bumpers. Suggesting no matter how good you are you're going to bump into things.

Not necessarily from bumping into things. My rear bumper is now cable tied on after my tyre de-laminated and burst the bumper off.
I know lots of people that have been doing it for a while and haven't damaged anything. I however have a fair few battle scars

Hitting a tyre wall while drifting?

Nothing a new door and some cable ties couldn't fix.

Also I found loads of humility rolling round inside when I got back to the pits. Amazing.

Good show. Worst I've had is a rear bumper tap and a few outings into the field at crail

That's what I'm worried about....and I wouldn't class myself as good which makes it worse.

the track at oulton is wet to reduce tyre noise and wear. It also makes it quite slippy so that you can enjoy yourself but without worrying about seriously damaging your car. There are quite big drop off at the side of the track and the tyre walls that you have mentioned.

There will be plenty of people there that have been there before who will take you out and jump in the car with you to give you advice and tips if you ask them so book up and enjoy yourself.

The main thing to do is build yourself up and be comfortable with what you are doing and try not to rush yourself.

All you have to do is be careful. Accidents happen when you start getting cocky.

The picture I posted was a section of tyre wall at Barkston Heath that I'd been telling people was somewhere to be careful for years. I decided I could drift in to that part of the track at 70mph and sort it out when I got there, and to be fair it worked for nearly a day.
