Hi

I've been to Florida around 4-5 times over the last 10 years and normally hire a convertible - the last few times this has been from Hertz who have been really good but after comparing prices Alamo have come in quite a bit cheaper. I remember renting a car from Alamo around 10 years ago and wasn't massively impressed with their standard of service (long delay getting the car and returning it) and wondered if anybody has any more up to date experience of this company?

cheers

Tim

no, but last time i hired a car in miami [couple of mths ago] sixt were by far the cheapest and the service was excellent. i got a camaro convertible for the same price and hertz were charging for a camry.

you get what you pay for , theyre just ok cars often have the odd bit of damage etc , hertz is a bit better in general and if you join their gold#1 club you can just jump in the car and drive off pretty much

I have been using Alamo for past 3 years in Florida, can be hit or miss, usually well priced but customer service on picking up is a bit iffy.Usually told to pick a car from a row rather than a directly allocated car, each time i get a better car than i paid for.

last year alamo through virgin in orlando went to desk with paper work directed to row and told pick one you like the look of. bit of an issue at the booth leaving teh carpark though as the booking had free satnav but the woman didnt want to give us it but dont think that had anything to do with alamo. returning was easy and over in a few minutes

next year using them again although this time full size suv rather than a hyundai accent !

I recently hired a mustang convertible for 11 days. I used a UK company and it was cheaper than the US local costs. I think as an export sale they dont charge us US taxes.

The company I used was usrentacar.co.uk

My experiences:

Alamo - On site at Sanford. Bit of a queue, didn't offer me a map, bit long-winded. Ordered a small car, they told me to pick from a row and ended up with a medium-sized 2 door coupe. Bit of damage, but nice car.

Hertz - Bus to Hertz rental centre. Bit of a queue. Simple handover. Allocated a car, rather than choosing what I wanted from a selection. Walked past all the Corvettes and nice stuff to my bay that had this in it:

Hateful, hateful car.

looking at my invoice it was $195 inc all taxes and surcharges [nav + pre paid tolls] for 4 days in a v6 camaro convertible with sixt. it was gutless but more fun than the equivalent saloon and i touched 130mph at one point.

Company looks pretty good. Thinking of hiring a Mustang for a couple of days. Only charging about £100 for two days for a 22 year old. Didn't think that was to bad really.

I rented a Camero Convertible from Alamo back in May. The whole process was painless to be fair.
