locking wheel nuts

which sounds pretty horific, reminded me to ask who on here has locking wheel nuts
In the interview with John Mann, he seemed aghast that someone could unscrew locking wheel nuts - that in itself didn't surprise me as I always assume that a professional thief can bypass pretty much any kind of lock if they want to.
But obviously, a car with locking wheel nuts is less likely to have the wheels pinched than one with
I don't know the price of a set of Aston wheels but I assume you're talking £2-3k+, plus tyres
So how come Aston neither have locking wheel nuts as standard nor as a 'widely published option' ?

you need a 2nd hand market ...even thieves know theyve got to sell them somewhere
so whos buying 2nd hand wheels that only fit niche model car ? and what for ? its not like its a trackday car and you need a few sets

I'm a sucker for buying every little extra on something I'm really into but have never bothered with the wheel nuts for that reasonbogie said:

having said that, there's always the odd occasion I leave the car on the street overnight - goes back to the question of how likely is it someone would try to nick them - I'm guessing not very, as the dealers try to flog you enough in the way of extras when you buy a car, but never the locking nutssomeone posted a pic once of a DB9 or Vanquish on city streets up on blocks
otherwise Ive never heard of anyone having wheels nicked ....just check ebay, its hardly flooding with them for sale either
theres just over 4000 vantages on UK roads ..compare that to something mainstream and its just not worth the hassle nicking something you cant sell on

you can buy kits in the back of some car magazines, under £100 for a full kit to "remove any locking nut" ...you know, for when people lose their key ...kinda makes the whole thing a bit pointless, so its just another one of those things for insurers who own locking wheel nut companies
..a tick in the box to scare you into buying locking nuts "wheels not insured without locking wheel nuts"
a bit like the insurance group that own Tracker and make it compulsory to have one fitted to your car if its worth >£25K ...so you essentially pay for yet more kit + yearly subscription to prevent the insurer from taking a loss ...funny that

I bought a set of Trilock Evo5 nuts from Europerformance last year, but had to return them after one of the wheel bolt broke off the end of one nut due to lack of depth. The wheels on my DB9 are standard factory fit and the hubs have never been modified. Europerformance have a warning about possible lack of depth inside the nuts for Jaguars and were going to add it to the DB9 info, but as yet have failed to do this.
I have had them on all 3 of my Astons. Just bought 1 set and keep getting them swapped over.

yes ...a few thousand coupes and a thousand or so roadsters ...they only hit the 10,000 units worldwide a couple of years back seems like more, I mean everyone says they are "common" but I think its just that owners actually use them more than Italian stuff, which usually only dare come out on sunny weekends

It sent Mrs K in to a spin
A quick call later we have an FOC set of McGard locking wheel nuts with Aston Martin packaging
They are not great quality and are alot cheaper than the £60 Aston wanted to charge if you can work out the McGard part number
They are a decent enough deterent
