Anybody got any ideas how to get creosote splatter off a car's paintwork?

Not on my car thankfully - a friend's car whose neighbour was creosoting his fence. When my friend pointed out the marks on his car the neighbour denied all knowledge!!

I suggested tar remover but this has been tried but with no success. My friend has been quoted £600 to sort which seems an awful lot but he's been told that they would literally need to grind the creosote off.

Is it really 'creosote' or a fence preservative type product?

For the latter, I would start with white spirit. For creosote, try diesel (or if not, petrol).

I thought 'Creosote' didn't exist anymore and all you can buy is a water-based alternative?
in any case you'll be needing a solvent as Charles suggests (Hi Charlie)

You might find CAREFUL use of thinners will work.
A friend's car had similar & thinners followed by a polish did the trick.
