Transferring registration numbers

I dont know if this is the right place to put this but Can anyone confirm to me if you had an old 1950s car or bike with a dateless 3 x 3 number plate that you wanted to transfer onto your modern car, can it be done as long as the v5c doesn't say it's a non transferrable number.

If this can be done, what happens to the 1950s car then. Does DVLA issue it a new period 3x3 dateless plate again? I'm thinking that if they do it's definetly a non transferrable one yes?

Or if I'm totally wrong can anyone clarify, thanks.

That's my understanding, though the donor vehicle needs to have an MOT. The DVLA will then issue it with an age-related plate which will be non-transferable.
