I have had to send the following into my local police force in response to this article...

I was reading the online version of the Peterborough evening telegraph and I was concerned by some of the comments made by PC Paul Stubbings, and I quote
"PC Paul Stubbings, from Peterborough Police Road Safety Unit, said: Neither of these areas are particular accident black spots.
"Obviously at that time of the morning traffic is quite light, and although we can only speculate, it could indicate people were travelling too fast.
"This will not be known until a detailed investigation is carried out into each accident.""
Now I drive these routes regularly and I can be fairly certain that speed would not be the issue, in fact in the case of a head on, a lack of speed would be a more realistic cause.
The most likely cause for an accident on either of these roads would be failure to anticipate the speed of an approaching vehicle.
I am keen that the current trend of increasing road deaths is reversed and having irresponsible and more than likely innacurate speculation in print is most unhelpful.
Too many people now have the misguided belief that slowing down will make everything safe, when this is patently not so. I would appreciate a way to pass my comments on to PC Paul Stubbings.
Regards,
BliarOut
Here is the problem. Before even having time to think, the local PC is already blaming speed.
When will they learn that they are killing people by repeating this as a cause.
FFS, they never miss an opportunity to put spin on things do they. Let's see if I get a reply. This isn't the first time PC Paul Stubbings has made this mistake in print!!!
Well you picked the wrong town to be in charge of road safety if that is what you think matey, I'll be watching you from now on
