Thinking of buying a 993 911 Carrera 2, Its a 1994 but has had 11 previous owners its around the £19,000 mark It has done 80.000 miles and is in superb condition, But is it to much money for a 12 owner car, And when i fancy a change will i be able to sell it on, Any thoughts, Cheers.

It wouldn't bother me one bit - focus on condition and history. Its a selective 'educated' market in which number of owners is unlikley to be a major priority compared to condition

Good luck

Totally irrelevant in my view.

What's the number of previous keepers got to do with anything?

Condition, condition, condition!

I think you're fair to worry about it, but don't worry about it.

Think that every owner would have spent money on it getting it nice and then moved on to something else.

scratchchin What?

OP : Condition. Service History. Nothing else matters. 2 owners .... 22 owners? Who cares.

Condition. Service History.

I'd care if come resale unless your wealthy. Personally all the motors I've bought previously with lots of owners have not been maintaind well with everyone. So now I move on to something else.
But that's just me

Seriously, on a £19k 993' it makes diddly difference to the value.

A low miles £30k one, maybe a little, but still not that much.

I've had two 993s - a C4S and a Turbo. I looked at a lot to get to those two, perhaps 20-30 between them. I have experienced the full domain of bad example to excellent example, howsoever advertised.

In my experience, there is no correlation at all between number of owners and condition *for these cars*. I'd suggest that if the data set was large enough you'd *possibly* be likely to see that a greater number of owners was actually correlated with a better condition. People, generally, treat cars that are new (to them) with greater care.

I have a 993 Turbo now that's had five previous owners. In my search I looked at two with one previous owner and four with two previous owners. I know this because I kept a spreadsheet. The one I bought was the standout best condition, and for what it's worth, second most expensive and second highest number of owners. It was however, the lowest mileage.

Don't worry about it. It means next to nothing. Against condition, mileage, service history and maintenance, I'd consider it an irrelevance.

But seriously, buy one. They're just wonderful cars.

MTR, whilst I fundamentally agree with you, it does make a difference to value because there are still sufficient potential purchasers out there who think this makes a bigger difference than it perhaps should. If I fancied a 993, low number of owners would attract a modest premium I think.

And to some (a very limited few, but premium buyers) may still find comfort regarding an OPC full service history...

Yes, agree with you both on a car at the top of the market, but not a middling 19k one.

But if 2 (hypothetical) identical cars were parked side by side, one had 12 owners and the other 1, both for sale at the same price which would you choose?

As you say, in the real world it hardly matters
:-)

I get the point but as you say, this is hypothetical. When you are buying an 18 year old car, no 2 are the same!!!

There is much to consider and check very carefully when buying a 993, the number of owners is purely a matter of interest.

I dont even know how many owners mine has had. I would have to check!

Totally irrelevant on a car as old as that... The type of buyer who is going to be bothered by it, will probably turn up with a clipboard and want every tax disc from new anyway.

Buy on current condition.

Many of us wouldn't buy a 993, so perhaps our opinion is of little value here. The beards have spoken and you can hope one of them wants to buy it when the time comes.
