managed to get a part ex deal on my mini one at £8,250 at UK sports cars. now which s1 variant should i buy?

quite fancy a 111s but is it worth the extra bucks and insurance or should i just go for the standard version - any of the sport models cost just that little too much to insure.

Drive both, buy what you fancy...

Seeing as they've only got an S1 without tricks you're limited a bit by the looks of things. Had any luck selling privately to get a bit more cash?

The 111s has better seats as well as better performance - to be honest, these are worth every penny as the standard ones are IMHO, a little unforgiving.

Hi, I've had my S1 111s for 2.5 years now and still love it. As has been mentioned, it has better seats than the standard car, almost a second quicker to 60 than the standard and has the close ratio box. A slightly wider rear track and I believe slightly better interior with the carbon effect trim and leather. You get driving lights in the grill and I think it's slightly lower than standard too.

But!!!! and this is important, you must get a sports exhaust otherwise it'll sound just like a Rover 418! Has to be done! Then there's the braided hoses, green stuff pads for standard drilled disks. Synthetic racing brake fluid and induction kit! Don't wanna do anything else to it now. It's perfect and ideal for the odd track jolly!

the guy at UK sports said that he'd keep a look out for me... i'm not in a major panic.

looks like a 111s then......

with a sport exhaust obviously.

I know the private route is a more profitable one, but always seems like such an effort - this way also means that i am not car less / mega-skint while waiting to buy /sell.

anything to watch out for in year changes (clutch things etc, etc)

cheers boys (or girls for that matter I'm no sexist!!!!)

Main thing there is to watch out for is your coolant level. Always keep a check on it as the engine was originally designed to go in the front of a car and therefore will not get the same breeze or natural cooling when driving now it's in the back. The fans and coolant do the job but they get cooked and blow a head gasket if the owners not keeping an eye on it.
There are lots of S1 Elise's around now and a lot of them have been left to go tatty!

I know cause I looked at about 12 cars with a mate who wanted one too.

I'd keep an eye on the classifieds section on www.Pistonheads.com and also www.autotrader.co.uk as well. There are a lot around and other dealers will give you PX which may be even better than you've been offered already. Also get the HPI check as if you buy one that's had chassis damage it'll never drive as it should. Get a good one and you'll wonder why you didn't do it years ago! I did! And good luck!

And get it checked by a Lotus specialist before you buy - don't bother with AA or RAC. Costs about the same and you'll get a far better idea of what you're buying.

Good advice. Cheers. Can't wait for LeMans to come round again this time I'll be in me Lotus rather than me dad's Cupra.

Rock on.
