Lens Hire

I don't fancy forking out over £200 on a new lens for my Olympus Pen just now but am going to the Paralympics next weekend and I would like a to get some closer shots whilst in the stadium as I'm nearly sitting on the roof! Also I'm going to watch wheelchair basketball and goal ball.

I found a company that will hire me a 40-150 (80-300 equivalent) for £10.55 for 3 days or a 75-300 (150-600 equivalent) for £18.55 for three days. All plus postage.

Is this a good deal? And what lens would you recommend? Would the larger one need a tripod to get defend shots? Or would it be fine hand held?

Can't comment on the lenses but make sure you check on any camera restrictions before you part with cash. There was a convo on here just before the Olympics about what was allowed or not!

CarMac's right. I'm sure there were restrictions at the Games about the size of your equipment, ooerr missus. I think a long zoom or telephoto was considered a no-no by the organisers but I did manage to spot a few long lenses in the crowd during the Games. They must have smuggled in long lenses!

Sounds reasonable to me, considering the postage is going to take 1/3 of that price alone.

The 40-150 is a relatively cheap (but good) lens to start with, it's also affordable so I wouldn't rent it too many times. Not many people go for the 75-300 as its expensive and a bit heavy, so maybe more ideal for renting.

I took a 60d with 70-200 f4L and a couple of other lenses in without a problem so a compact system camera and zoom is unlikely to cause any problems.
