Black smoke on acceleration - TDV8 Range Rover
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 2007 TDV8 Vogue and recently it has developed a fault where I'm getting loads of black smoke out of the exhausts when accelerating. Anyone got any ideas what this could be?
I've tried to book it in at my usual local dealer but they're fully booked until middle of September. Can anyone recommend any Land Rover specialists in the Manchester area?
Thanks.

Same here, RH Pipe cased in black gunk, but cannot see a split, maybe pipe just needed clips tightening ? will let you know if this is the case. Ps. Slightly over full on engine oil, as dip stick shows 3 marks i assumed it was the top mark that read full, but just checked the manual and full mark is the middle mark on dip stick.
Thanks in advance guys for the heads up on split RH pipe.

I bought my TDV8 about 3 weeks ago. Within 1 week it was blasting black smoke out the back under acceleration.
I was panicking that something was horribly wrong and phoned my local specialist. Within seconds of describing what was happening they said 'Turbo hose'. Apparently as they age they get brittle and then split.
Took the car round to them that evening, they popped the bonnet and immediately pointed at the split in the top right hose, hidden behind another little pipe.
They said to bring it back the following evening when they changed both hoses and cleared the learned calibrations from the ECU as I waited. Took them just 20 mins.
Cost - £96. Priceless. Car returned to full bore with no smoke.
Hats off to Rovertune in Reading, great guys, great customer focused service, genuinely the best garage I've used. For example I was changing my front pads and discs last week and some spanner monkey had cross threaded one of the caliper bolts. I popped into Rovertune and they went and got me a couple of new spares and just handed them over and said we'd worry about settling up the next time. Awesome service. Can't recommend strongly enough if you're anywhere near Reading.
