Hi can anyone suggest why i'm having problems getting my Cerb into 1st gear, The clutch was replaced on April 2010 along with slave and master cylinder (AP RACING CLUTCH) was told by the previous owner that its only done 8000 miles since!
Its not all the time but just the odd occasions

I have only had the Cerb a week and finding more and more problems! Think it need a good going over!

First thing to do is bleed the clutch. I posted instructions on how to do that a month or two ago in one of FUBAR's threads. Good luck!

I'd check the fluid first of all.
If the fluid is low and/or has black bits in it then it might be that you need to replace one of the cylinders. Otherwise its most likely fingers and a new clutch.
IMHO

How is it changing to the other gears? Does it tend to jump out of gear once it is in?

Hi all thanks for your help and advice will check the fluid level it might need bleeding!

It does not jump out of any other gear.

It's also possible, and quite easy, to adjust the clutch at the pedal and this cured the problem I had of gears being very stiff to engage, particularly 1st and reverse. Can't get the right link in the post just now but if you do a search there was a really helpful post by Mr Cerbera about 6 weeks ago with pictures and everything - perfect for novices like me ( but not necessarily you of course!).

The only test is how easy/difficult it is to engage reverse when stationary (using the owners manual procedure 5th to Reverse).

If it is in the least bit noisy then there are two main causes:
Clutch not disengaging
Pilot bearing sticking

If it's the clutch itself, then you have a clutch slave issue that may me helped by bleeding (if it's a hydraulic issue)
If it's not the clutch, then it could be a sticky/failing pilot bearing (although I think TVR call them spigot bearings), makes little or no difference though as you still have the major pain of removing the gearbox to get to the area in question.
If bleeding the hydraulics helps then brace yourself for a slave or master cylinder job in the near future anyway.

Try bleeding the clutch,if you cannot bleed it,i.e.fluid is not pumping through, the seals in the clutch master cylinder have gone and you will need to replace it.
Alternativly if you have clutch fluid dripping under the car its your slave cylinder seals which is a gearbox & bellhousing off job.

Before pulling everything apart, can I just suggest a simple check.
Are you sure the pedal travel is clear to the floor, nothing trapped under the pedal, carpet toy meerkat etc.?
I always try the cheapest simple solutions first.

Extremely good advice - wish I'd changed my rad before replacing head gaskets...

Was having similar problems until today when I picked up from tvr central ( havin had my headlights modded very nicely ) got back to London stopped in Brixton for a while and then she locked me out of all gears managed to get her started in gear although the battery looked really weak when the clutch was down and got locked out at another set of lights , was stuck for a while before limping back to her registered parking bay only to see a bright red sagaris and I think a dark purple cerbera burning up the road on this beautiful Friday night , I cannot express how gutted I am grrrr

We're you sat in traffic for a while, if so then pumping the clutch can help in this situation. The cause is heat build up in the clutch fluid due to the proximity of the exhaust boiling any water that has contaminated the fluid and causing vapour bubbles, pumping helps shift the bubbles out of the way.

If it happens a lot you could try new fluid or de cat the old girl, help prevent the heat build up as the Cats are right by the bell housing.

I had this on the first London Thunder. 3 hours of the Cats boiling the very old clutch fluid and after stopping in Picadilly to take photos my foot went straight to the floor. PANIC! Quite a few pumps got some clutch back and it seemed to work provided I kept my foot slightly on the clutch. We bailed and once the car had cooled with some A40 running it was OK to get home.

Took the cats off, bled all new brake fluid through it and it's been fine since.

my clutch used to b so hard it tired out my foot , now it seems very soft , no amount of pumping seems to help , was hoping it had miraculosly sorted itself out today but no
