Apologies if this has been discussed before, and maybe I need to get out more, but I keep noticing loads of VW vans with matt black or patterned bonnets recently. Anyone know why? I take it the trend started somewhere and loads of people are doing it to theirs now?

Because stupid dubbers think they are being individual by doing exactly the the same as each other. Just another thoroughly retarded "scene" modification.

It started in the forties, or earlier, as an attempt to cut down on sun glare in aircaft.

Which is fine except you cannot see the bonnet when sat in a transporter van hehe

There are loads of 'individual' ones round my way, I just have to laugh when I see them, all with matt black bonnets, aftermarket lights with wky drls and silly wheels, muppetry.

I think a black bonnet really depends on the car. Looks crap on some, looks great on others.

I actually quite like it done on a van, along with other modifications. Nice to see something other than a rusty white pile of crap. Theres a guy near where I live who drives a white vito with black alloys and a massive bull bar up front laugh Looks very cool.

Yet, they are actually car enthusiasts, just like you and me.

I think they look quite cool albeit de rigeur as a fashion accessory recently. I am fairly jealous of the serious wedge of money people apparently have to spend on these expensive vans and accessories - whatever happened to driving a ratty renault scenic or xsara picasso? If someone can please send me a pile of cash to get one of the kombi ones all nicely kitted out inside that'd be great, ta.

The majority of the VW Transporter vans round here with matte black bonnets also tend to sport rather badly fitted alloys that are clearly meant to be on a VW car not a van judging by how far out of the arch they stick out.

Having a matt black bonnet is not a bad thing, unless you a DUB mong. Having a carbonfibre bonnet is not bad either, as long as A) you are not a DUB mong, and B) you don't kid yourself or others about how much performance benefit that weight saving gives your car.
