Like many of you, I often get total strangers coming up to me when I am with my car telling me how much they love my car and Aston Martins, etc. I cannot fill up with petrol without some comment or appreciative nod. Personally I love this and get a warm feeling from the affirmation that I do indeed have impeccable taste and a certain class. wink

Well today I had a "first". I called at Northampton services and upon returning to my car there was a guy in in his early fifties with his son/grandson admiring the car, nothing new there. When saw it was mine he came up and shook my hand and said how much he loved Aston Martin and that he had been a fan since boyhood, he then went up to the car and KISSED IT TWICE, once on the bonnet and once on the windscreen!

When I asked him if he wanted to sit in it I have never seen a face so happy.

Before some of you start, yes he was perfectly "normal"

Anyway to get to the point, whilst his behaviour was at the more exaggerated end of the range of reactions, it still felt nice that people get pleasure from and feel love towards the brand.

If you have a Lamebo/Ferrari, people think you are an ass, but an Aston, that you have class.

On a recent visit to Tesco's in Towcester a young lad of about 8 dragged his Mum over and asked "is that your Aston outside?" He then proceeded to bombard me with questions about it until his mother pulled him away. He certainly knew his stuff

At Tesco in Haslingden just 2 days ago. As I was getting out, a gentleman (in his 60s) gave me a wink, looked at the car and said, "just beautiful". Yes, it's nice that people don't treat you like an ass. It's happened many times, never happened in my 997 cab.

concur. had an arnarge and it was always covered in gob.

supermarket, had a dad and son approach me leaving in the aston and the dad asked could he take a picture.
i said no.

not unless HE is sitting in it....pointing at the boy.

the dads face went from sucking a lemon to a boomerang in one hit.

well the boy thought all his xmas's had come at once, so i let him push the start button as well.

the dad was over the moon and i left him with one very excitable little lad to contend with.

Based on my experience that isn't true
People love the Gallardo , I had a Gallardo spyder for 2 years and the love it got was remarkable
The DBS doesn't get anywhere that level of affection from other road users
I've had 3-4 people comment to
Me since I got the DBS,that would be per day in the Lamborghini
I'm rather enjoying the relative anonymity which sounds strange for such a gobsmackingly gorgeous car

Where I live (France) the Aston has about the same effect as turning up in the Starship Enterprise. Most people have no clue what it is other than it looks expensive. There are a couple of enthusiasts.

I feel much more comfortable driving it around Surrey where it just blends into the crowd. smile Even there, I get people chatting to me about the car at petrol stations, etc. Once held up the loading of a cross channel ferry because the loading supervisor was engrossed in talking about my car. I love that kind of reaction.

There is something special about the Astons and I don't think it's to do with class, well not entirely. There is something that seems "accessible" about them, for want of a better word. Perhaps the ethos of the car, the English gentleman / secret service associations (I know, I know, but the association is undeniable and long established) make it less standoffish than the equivalent exotica. People can relate to it, and the owner, better.

Or maybe I'm full of it.

In France, I've stopped taking my car to meets and shows because I'm fed up of people pawing the leather and touching everything. Interestingly I find the youth have much more respect for the car than the older generations. The kids are always standing at an appropriate distance with their hands behind their backs. I still get the occasional positive comment here, but also a lot more negative reactions. Perhaps they don't "get" the car.

Strange the way every one seems to love Astons, when compared to there rivals they always seem to come last and are always a little behind the competion. But the public do seem to love them.
