A friend phoned me up yesterday evening and asked me who made a car called "Karma" as he had just seen one on the M20! Was this on the tv then?

Have to admit that first, I thought of UVA kit car - think they produced a "Karma", iirc but then remembered the Fisker. Believe it does work as a range-extender hybrid. Looks nice too!

Eta just googled it - was RW made a Karma kit car which was a "replica" Dino.

Looks interesting. Not sure if the total lack of price is a bad sign though. Also, the "eco wk" interior / paint s a bit gay. good luck to them though...

403bhp, 959ft-lbs and 'only' 0-60 (not even 0-62) in 6.3 seconds?

And I've just read why: it weighs 2.4t.

If the 370Z gets slated for being to heavy to corner properly, god knows what this is going to be like (I know they're not the same category, just making a point on handling).

It looks quite good outside, I like the interior from what I can see, but I think someone would really want to have a petrol-electric over a conventional engine to buy it. Any idea of prices?

ETA An Autocar article in February suggests a price of £72,500, not as bad as I was expecting.

Too bad it has too many Ferrari genes apparently:
http://jalopnik.com/5933859/exclusive-fisker-karma...

And there also were a lot of known problems (known to Fisker that is) that they just don't bother to aknowledge/fix. Can't find a linky to that though.

Idea is quite ok, but wouldn't bother to buy one. Only reason to get one (in Europe, can't tell for the UK) is all the benefits you get from the government, like tax reduction, free parking etc. If you own a business you can practically drive it for free over here! And everybody will think you are a treehugger of some kind and love you for it but all you're just doing is having them to pay for your motoring! Because people tend to forget that low tax for some means high tax for others!

I do with they would stop quoting torque at the wheels, it's a totally meaningless metric, it just sounds impressive.

for example, a Honda civic (you know, Honda Vtec, no torque), can make well over 2,000lbft at the wheels (in 1st gear).

I know what you mean, but I think the electric motors are connected directly to the wheels (transmission is stated as being direct drive) so it's all they have. Sure, it produces 959lbft, right up to the point that the wheels actually start turning, then it just keeps decreasing.

You're right though, they really should produce some sort of equivalent torque figure. I suppose something like the way some manufacturers quote something like, "over 300lbft torque over 90% of the rev range."

Better looking than most current saloon cars. Not like that matters, this is PH and I'm certain the drive train bashings are just a few posts away.

hey, I don't dislike it... not my cup of tea, (looks too much like a BMW Z8 for me), but for the money it's actually ahead of everything else out there.

bad points are the engine, either they ran out of cash or something cause there are much better options out there that are lighter/more fuel efficient/more powerfull.

also, it's just plain too heavy.

And once it's run out of battery power, fuel economy drops to 20mpg (US). So if you are intending to drive more than 50 miles, a Corvette ZR1 is more economical.

Thing is, it is too small inside for that category - the US classify it as a subcompact according to wiki, due to interior dimensions.
