Having a total nightmare with my 55 plate golf tdi. Local garage are up to their limits really and they have suggested putting it in to the local vw dealerships. Just wondered if it might be better off with a knowledgeable specialist.....

G S Motors in Meanwood supposedly have a good reputation as a VW specialist according to some posts on uk-mkivs, however I have not used them myself.

G S Motors
26A Monk Bridge Road, Leeds, LS6 4ER

If you're coming from the Arndale they are on the right hand side as the road curves left down into the dip where Meanwood beck is.

If you decide to use them, let me know if they're any good please! smile

Went to IVC once, a few days after I bought a Lupo GTI

Managed to overfill my engine oil by about 1/3.

When I took it back they just laughed it off, I wasnt impressed by their service or mechanical ability

Similar outcome when they serviced my Touareg and ended up doing both front wheel bearings as they did the wrong one to start with. It will be going somewhere else next time.

It's not starting. Local garage fitted a lift pump yesterday. It ran fit a while and cut out again. Electrical problem now!

Try Rob Griffiths (RG Race Engineering) based in Otley (PM me if you want his number). VAG specialist (and MGB/Midgets) and I can't recommend him highly enough.

I would strongly advise anyone to check G S Motors out with trading standards before using them.

Oh? And why is that then? I have just looked and there is nothing to be found.

You need to dig deeper.

I had a very poor experience with GS Motors. They carried out work on my car that was not requested, althorised or needed. They also charged more than quoted for the work I had asked them to do.

A friend (who live very close to GS Motors) took her VW there for an MOT. This resulted in legal action and trading standards notification.

Mod edit: I have amended the details slightly so as not to be too specific.

OK, as I've said I've not used them personally, but they do have several recommendations from Golf owners on uk-mkivs hence why I passed that on here (in good faith). I will bow to your superior knowledge of them.

Interested to hear of folks experiences of IVC in Leeds, been going there for 15 years and never found them to be anything but friendly, efficient and good value! Wouldn't go any where else!

A friend (who live very close to GS Motors) took her VW there for an MOT. Due to GS Motors dishonestly regarding this, the owner of GS Motors was arrested, lawyers engaged and trading standards were notified. The trading standards representative mentioned that they had received a number of complaints about GS Motors.
I'll second this. They used to be great but changed ownership about 4(?) years ago and went down the pan. Took my golf there for its MOT and they tried to charge me for work they hadn't even done.

Personally, I found IVC a bit pricey for an indie and you there's plenty of other genuinely great VAG specialists in the area - Here's a couple I've used and they've been ace:

Chris Umpleby
31-34 Barnes Road Bradford BD8 9TG‎
01274 547334

Apparently his dad/grandad had the first ever VW franchise in Yorkshire.

Lynn Motors (off Forster Square, Bradford)
01274 735 544
The owner is a ex-Audi works mechanic with a good line in Michelle Mouton anecdotes. Top fella.

Good luck.
